Both Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University are well-known institutions that offer BA LLB programs. Both institutions have their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and the choice ultimately depends on your personal preferences and requirements. Here are some points to consider while making your decision:

  • Campus and Location: Jamia Millia Islamia is located in Delhi while Aligarh Muslim University is located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Delhi is a larger city and offers more opportunities for internships and placements, while Aligarh is a smaller town with a more relaxed pace of life.
  • Rankings: Both Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University are ranked among the top law schools in India. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Jamia is ranked 8th among law colleges in India, while Aligarh is ranked 9th.
  • Faculty: Both institutions have experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. It is important to research the faculty members and their areas of expertise before making a decision.
  • Curriculum: The curriculum for BA LLB at both institutions is likely to be similar, but it is important to check for any differences in the courses offered, as well as the flexibility and opportunities for specialization.
  • Infrastructure and Facilities: You may want to consider the infrastructure and facilities available at both institutions, including libraries, moot court halls, computer labs, hostels, and sports facilities.
  • Alumni Network and Placements: It is important to research the alumni network and placements offered by both institutions. Look for information on the companies and law firms that regularly recruit from the institutions, as well as the salary packages offered.

AMU (2019)

Between Jamia and AMU, AMU is the preferable choice. The only drawback of AMU, as a law college, is its location. It is situated in a semi-urban area. This constricts the sea of opportunities that can come along the way if they were located in a completely urban area.

Despite the locational disadvantages, you should keep AMU as your first choice. Here are the reasons why.

AMU:

Culture:

It has a distinctive culture, unlike any other college.

Faculty:

The professors appointed have years of experience, they are one of the oldest members among the multiple law colleges across the globe.

Ranking:

In recent years the ranking for AMU for Law is as follows.

  • 13th for LAW by NIRF’20
  • 11th for LAW by Indiatoday’20
  • 8th for Law by Indiatoday’19

JMI:

Coming to Jamia, the first problematic area of this college is the lack of dorm facilities. Students face, consistently, hostel-related issues. Unlike AMU, Jamia doesn’t have a distinguishable culture on campus, which equals dull campus life.

The courses offered by Jamia are as follows.

  • Five years integrated BA LLB course
  • Four semester LLM course in three different streams i.e. personal law, criminal law, corporate law.
  • Ph.D. program.

The scoring of Jamia, based on different aspects is -

  • Reputation- 11
  • Academic input- 12
  • Student care- 11
  • Infrastructure- 12
  • Placements- 13
  • Perceptual rank- 12
  • Factual rank (2020)- 9 (NIRF)

Therefore, from the above discussion of facts, it is safe to say AMU should be the first choice.
