I have a few friends who graduated from IIM Ahmedabad. Most of them used to gush about the teaching methodology of Professor Saral Banerjee.  He is an expert in Operations Management. But his skills and knowledge aren’t limited to a single discipline. You will scarcely come across a better definition of strategy than the one proposed by him, “Strategy is all about closing doors.” His way of explaining the facts of management through the Elephant, Cheetah, and Tortoise story makes a lifelong impression.

Dr. Savan Godiawala, who is Deloitte's partner and visiting professor at IIM Ahmedabad is undoubtedly one of the best professors at IIM Ahmedabad.

In my sister’s second year, he taught Company Taxation. It is a ten-session course aimed at teaching the fundamentals of taxation in our country to students. It is a course that is optional. I was hesitant to take up this course at first, because I figured it would be an advanced version of the finance courses. However later I realised that I need to know these concepts even though I'm not going to go for jobs related to finance. And then, I heard such positive reviews from my seniors about the instructor that I took up the course.

It is unbelievable that this was the most sought-after course. A bid is arranged before the start of each term in the second year, where students give their points for the courses they want to take. In the bidding, this course won one of the highest points.

I asked one of my seniors, that “Why do students lose so many points on a half credit course?”

He said, "This course teaches you the fundamental concepts of taxation that you will require in everyday life." And in terms of grades, the teacher is so cold that he doesn't want you to cram anything down.

He is like a friend of the students, and whatever and wherever you want to ask, you can easily ask him some questions. To illustrate the concepts in a better way, he uses examples. In fact, you'll most likely even find a "New Year" wish email from him in your inbox, thus explaining his friendly nature. He made his classes so fascinating using just his teaching skills in a subject like Business Taxation, where you can not arrange any trips or can't display any funny images. He is the personification of a good teacher. Without developing the fear of cold-calling in their minds, he knows how to engage his class. (Cold calling refers to a teacher asking every student in the class a question randomly). It is because of him that even engineers, who have never studied anything tax-related in the subject, score maximum marks in examinations.
