Yes, class 10 marks do matter for IIM Kozhikode. The weightage however keeps changing every year and also varies from one IIM to another. The detailed admission procedure is given in that year’s admission policy brochure.

The past academics comes into the picture for the following scenarios:

  • Minimum cutoff score for the interview shortlist
  • In calculation of the composite score for interview shortlist
  • In calculation of composite score for final shortlist after WAT and PI.

The table below shows the minimum class 10 marks required at IIM Kozhikode for interview shortlisting.

Category  Class 10 percentage
GEN 60
NC-OBC/EWS 60
SC 55
ST/PwD 55

The weightage for preparing WAT and PI shortlist of class 10th is 30%. So yes, class 10 marks matter to get into IIM Kozhikode.

In my opinion, the weightage to your academics changes from location to location. It will eventually boil down to which IIM you end up applying to. Your academic scores depend upon a lot of criteria. Some of these include:

  • The minimum cut off score that the college will consider for the interview shortlist.
  • The composite score for the interview shortlists in the calculation.
  • In the calculation of the composite score that will be used for the final shortlist after you complete WAT and PI.

If you are particularly considering IIM Kozhikode, this table gives the minimum cut off scores that are required for the interview shortlist:

Here is the weightage they considered for preparing the WAT and PI shortlist as of 2019:

As you can see above, the weightage given to class 10 grade is 30% and is finally calculated as an aggregate index score for the candidate. The number of candidates shortlisted also depends on the batch size that the college is considering for that particular year. Based on the aggregate score obtained from the second table, candidates are called for the personal interview and the writing ability test.

The problem is that this aggregate score cut-off is not fixed every year. It depends on a number of factors and changes from year to year. But to answer your question, yes the 10th-grade score definitely matters if you’re planning to take admission at IIM Kozhikode. My advice to you would be to check the detailed admission procedure that is available in the year’s admission policy brochure.
