Yes, there are English graduates who got into IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, or Calcutta. Although the number of such people is less. If you are an English graduate, you will be at an advantage. As your profile will add diversity to the batch.  If you can manage to score well in CAT and have a stellar academic background, you can get calls from IIM ABC.

It is essential to note that although the number of students from the said background is very minimal, it is not uncommon or impossible to get admissions. This also does not imply that Engineering students are given extra preference.

  • The utmost criteria still remain student diversity. As long as you have decent academic performance and a unique profile, there are high chances you will be selected.
  • Additionally, if you manage to get a good score in CAT examinations and perform well in the QA section- which basically has questions pertaining to maths and logic, it will showcase that you are very well capable of securing admissions at IIMA despite being from an English graduate background.
  • Based on statistics, there have been less than 1% of students from an English language background have made it to IIMA.
  • But, speaking of diversity, you will be amongst some of the most sought after students for admissions in terms of diversity.
  • While that is certainly a positive, one of the challenges will be that you may have to work doubly hard to compete with the scope of students of accountancy and other domains from top institutes like IIT.
  • Since there is no preferred or fixed way of admissions, it is imperative to remain prepared and go on with full confidence and ensure to get good CAT scores.

While students need not be worried about their graduation background as much, just be sure to prepare really well and get high scores in their CAT examination to ensure that they have the relevant academic expertise to back student diversity and seek admissions at IITA.
