UCSB has a decent Computer Science department. The department is smaller compared to the other UCs. Students get equal attention from faculties. Overall, UCSB campus is friendlier, you can adjust easily to the environment. US News ranking ranked the CS department of UCSB 28th in the country.

The curriculum is a combination of basic programming, surveys of numerical methods, programming languages and compilers, automata theory, algorithm and data structures, etc. UCSB CS faculties are accomplished researchers and teach well.

As per Payscale, CS graduates from UCSB earn around $76k - $137k.

Being a small department, it isn’t good in all domains of CS. For instance, there aren’t any faculty members at UCSB who are pursuing research in hardcore Machine Learning. So, if you are interested in a particular area of CS, take it into consideration while choosing the institute.

Most of the undergrad CS programs have many similarities like fundamental programming, algorithms and data structures, architecture/hardware sampling, etc. UC is a solid second tier school so it won’t be so easy to get into it. It's like you are appearing at a coding school; anywhere at this stage, they're all very similar to be honest. As per the Network Environment reports, UCSB has the lead among the top 25 universities in the field of computer science.

What is worth noting is UCSB’s power that is obtained from its dynamic environments and offices. As the 3rd host on ARPAnet, they compensate for their loss. As long as you're not in the purely theoretical CS, you should be fine. The university's chancellor is also pretty good. Many other departments reach out to the CS department to resolve their issues. Overall, their administration and faculty are good and politically aware. You will have many internships and opportunities to work along with your studies so you shouldn't just focus completely on your curriculum.

Regarding employment, most graduates are well placed with their median pay scales ranging from USD 71,700 to USD 147,000. It is clear by looking at the median salary package that UCSB is quite good. Also, this CS Department has recently seen an increase in the National Research Council's most recent Ph.D. program ranking (NRC), placing their Department of Computer Science in the top ten! Concluding, It is pretty impressive
