Some of my friends graduated from Amity University Noida. Following are the few things they complain about.

  • Everyone is required to maintain a minimum attendance of 75%. Anyone who is unable to do so is barred from appearing in the examinations.
  • Other than the course work students are required to study subjects like Environmental Studies, FBL, Behavior Science, etc. They have to give examinations for these courses as well. It adds extra stress. Often teachers aren’t interested in teaching these subjects as well.
  • There is no mess system. Even if you are a hosteller you will have to pay for breakfast, lunch, dinner daily.
  • Other than CSE, the placement scenario isn’t good. Only a few mass recruiters visit the campus placement.
  • A pointer system is used to analyze and calculate marks. Your actual mark will get reduced in this pointer scale system.

While Amity University has been popularly known for its good reputation, a friend of mine suggested not to go for Amity Noida given to some factors that you must know about before seeking admissions:

  • Curriculum: You will have to mandatorily choose a Foreign Business Language (FBL) subject as part of your curriculum. It includes subjects like Chinese, French, German and Spanish. The challenge is that if you don't score well in these subjects, you end up getting debarred. If not debarred, students have to reappear for them. Most of the time students do not get their preferred subject since the slots for FBL get full quickly, resulting in them studying a subject they do not really want to pursue.
  • Timings: While the institute has set fixed timings from 9 to 6 dedicated for classes, faculty members more often don't end up coming to class. They start their lecture only around midway, making students wait around for attendance the entire day.
  • Attendance: Students have to compulsorily have a minimum attendance rate of 75%. If not, they are debarred from appearing for examinations of that particular subject.

At times, students attend conferences for the sake of attendance and they are not allowed to leave till the event is complete, since the doors are locked.

  • Subjects: You have to take up nearly 11 to 12 subjects without fail every semester. Additionally, subjects like English and Behavioural Science are mandatory for each semester.
  • Access: You cannot enter the campus premises without punching your ID card at the entrance gate. Also for examinations, students must carry their admit cards. In case you forget your admit card, you will be fined Rs 1000.
  • Internship: You have to look for internships yourselves since the college does not provide any guidance regarding the same. Alternatively, if you do not find internships you’re required to pay an amount of Rs 6000 to 8000 per semester since if they cannot provide an internship certificate, they will get a back in that paper.
  • Marking system: Another challenge is that students are never shown their answer sheets after they have been checked and hence there is no way to know they were marked, despite working really hard.

These are a few points that students must know about Amity University Noida before applying for admissions.
