Getting into Florida State University is difficult as there are a lot of factors at play. The competition varies depending on your choice of school and the intake session. The prerequisites stay the same but the competition changes. Taking admission as a freshman during the fall semester is more difficult, due to the huge number of applications.

The prerequisites for Florida State University international students' admission are as follows.

  • A high GPA (usually above 4.0 on a 5.0 scale).
  • An impressive entrance essay.
  • Strong LORs.
  • High scores in standardized examinations like SAT/ACT (average SAT score  - 1250-1360, average ACT score - 28-31)
  • Valid proof of financial support.
  • As an international student, you will also need a valid IELTS or TOFEL score to prove your English proficiency.

Although they make exceptions, these are the general requirements for taking admission. They want to make sure that you are well-rounded and have a good moral character.

Getting admitted into FSU depends on a lot of things: whether you're going to be a freshman or going for higher studies and research. The acceptance rate is around 37% which means the competition is very intense. If you are an international student, your acceptance rate reduces to 6%. In 2019 FSU received over 47,000 applications out of which only 15,830 were admitted, which means you need to work hard to be here.

The requirements stay the same but the competition changes depending on the program you are opting for. It also depends on which session you're planning to join in. Admissions during Fall intakes are considered tougher due to a very large applicant pool. As a general rule, make sure that you:

  • Have a high GPA (4.0 and above on the scale of 5.0)
  • A stellar essay with all your extracurriculars, qualities and achievements
  • Solid ACT or SAT scores (28-31 on ACTs or 1250-1360 on SATs)
  • Strong letters of recommendation from teachers who know you well
  • To have enough funds to support your first year of college and added expenses

Leadership skills are desirable and improve your chances of admission. The admissions team looks at a candidate's overall personality and what value they would add to their college. Other than these, a resume, personal statement and other standardized tests like GMAT, GRE, TOEFL etc are very important too. International students specially need to demonstrate their skills in English through TOEFL or IELTS.
