In IIT Bhubaneswar, presently the Mess is being run by Gauri Catering Services which is based in Kanpur.

If we talk about all the IIT Students, the price range starts from Rs.100.40/- per day which totals to Rs. 3012/- per month. Although, a one-time payment of Rs. 14000/- is to be paid initially when the semester begins and the remaining balance is further calculated at the end of the semester on the basis of the number of leaves taken by the students. This way, if there is any remaining balance left of the student, it will get adjusted in the next Mess Bill.

The mess price for outsiders, faculty, and staff are as follows:

Breakfast: Rs. 30/-

Lunch: Rs. 40/- for vegetarian food and Rs. 50/- for non-vegetarian food.

Snacks: Rs. 10/-

Dinner: Rs. 40/- for vegetarian food and Rs. 50/- for non-vegetarian food.

Yes, the branch changing rules are liberal but they are same for all students. One has to work really hard to get top grades in order to get the branch changed. But in most cases, it has been observed that students struggle to even pass semester exams at the end of the year given alone getting top CGPA. The rules are the same as other IITs in India and there shouldn’t be an increase or decrease of more than 10% in any of the branches. One can change to dual degree from a bachelor course but not vice-versa. As the number of dual degrees seats are less in every branch, hence this reduces the chances. At the same time, competition is also less due to fewer students in dual degree courses which balances out the above.

The applications for branch change can be filled at the beginning of the 2nd and 3rd semesters. But, you can change your branch at the beginning of 3rd semester only if there is a vacancy. In case two students have the same CGPA the tiebreaker is their AIR Rank.Foreign students and students enrolled for the preparatory courses are not eligible for branch change. The CGPA has to be more than or equal to 8.0 in order to apply for branch change. The students who are granted branch change are informed by the Dean office and are required to fulfill the requirements framed by DUGCs of respective departments.
