IIM Nagpur

Whether or not it is a good idea to pursue a postgraduate degree at IIM Nagpur (or any other IIM) depends on the individual circumstances and alternatives available. Here are some general guidelines to consider:

  • If you are a software engineer with a strong coding ability and the option to switch jobs, or if you are an engineer with a non-software job that pays more than INR 5 lakh per year, or if you have a degree from a top college in a city, you may want to consider skipping IIM Nagpur.
  • If you have below-average academics and will not be able to secure a good job, or if you are an engineer in a core industry with a non-permanent job and a salary of around INR 2 lakh, you may want to consider attending IIM Nagpur.
  • Keep in mind that companies from top industries may view IIM Nagpur graduates as inferior and may not consider them for certain positions.
  • It is also worth considering the long-term career prospects of graduates from IIM Nagpur. Some may find that their peers who did not pursue an MBA are more successful in the job market, even if they have less education and experience.
  • Lastly, be aware that starting salaries for IIM Nagpur graduates may be lower, and you may have to take on additional loans in order to afford the cost of education and maintain a certain lifestyle. These loans may take several years to pay off.

In summary, if you are an engineer with a decent job, it may be best to avoid IIM Nagpur (and possibly other IIMs) unless you are confident that you can rank in the top 20% of the class. Otherwise, the time and money spent on an MBA may not be worth it in the long run.
