Lives in Bangalore

One of my friends is currently pursuing her final year Btech in ECE in NIT Surathkal and shared a few key points

  • Placements: The placement scenario for the ECE branch of both NIT Surathkal and RVCE is somewhat similar. Most companies like TI and Samsung visit both the colleges and offer similar packages. However, NIT students face intense competition due to relative grading so grabbing good packages is more challenging than at RVCE.
  • Brand : It cannot be denied that the NIT tag adds a lot of value to your resume and opens multiple doors of opportunities.
  • Faculty : The ECE department of NITK has one of the best faculties in comparison to any other departments. Most of them are highly experienced and you can do many projects under them. The course curriculum is also revised frequently.
  • Opportunities : RVCE is located in Bangalore and thus offers better off-campus opportunities than NIT Surathkal.

Ultimately, both colleges are equally good in their own way. It’s up to you to choose the right one for you!

Studied at RV College of Engineering (2020)

Electronics is one of the most preferred branches in engineering with respect to its demand in the market. RVCE Bangalore and NIT Surathkal both provide stable career growth in the future with respect to the electronics domain. The better option can be chosen depending upon the parameters mentioned below:

Ranking:

  • NIT Surathkal holds a prestigious position as it holds 21st rank in the engineering category. The scholarships offered are merit or merit cum means scholarship.

  • RVCE Bangalore is well-reputed in Karnataka with 74 ranks for BTech by NIRF 2020.

Admission:

  • RVCE has a mandatory criterion of 10+2 with 45% marks and qualified KCET exam. The cut off is between 271-232.

  • NIT Surathkal accepts 10+2 marks with JEE Mains Score. The cutoff ranges from 3378-5608.

  • RVCE has a fee structure of Rs. 25 lakhs in comparison to Rs. 4.94 lakhs in NIT Surathkal

NIT Surathkal has a more affordable course fee.

Placement Details:

NIT Surathkal:

  • NIT Surathkal stands at a 100% placement rate with a median package of Rs.18 LPA.

  • The top recruiters are Wipro, BYju’s, Oyo, HSBC Technology, Cisco Systems, Walmart Labs, Morgan Stanley.

RVCE Bangalore:

  • RVCE also has a good placement record but it is definitely not matching NIT as the median package is around Rs.8LPA.

  • The recruiters are Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, Deloitte, Bosch, Tata Motors Limited.

RVCE is a good option with respect to the benefits it offers but the fee structure can turn out to be a deterrent. NIT holds a better hand as it provides an affordable fee structure along with good career opportunities in the electrical domain. It is among the top NIT institutes thereby adding reputation and goodwill at the same time.
