There are many flaws in the Indira Gandhi National Open University or IGNOU with respect to the academics offered. Some of them have been listed below:

  • There is only one regional center that responds to the queries of a large number of students.
  • Some regional centers don’t even have a telephone line and sometimes students have no contact and their visit becomes useless.
  • The examiners have little or no interest in checking the copies of the exam.
  • The course structure is obsolete and not at par with the current trends in the industry.

However, if you look at the bright side then IGNOU is Asia's best distance-learning platform and is improving itself. Now, you can get your study material right at your doorstep at no additional cost which is very cost and time effective. So we can safely conclude that although IGNOU lacks in certain areas, its pros overshadow the cons to a large extent.

The main disadvantage of IGNOU is that the administration does not even listen to the student's problems. Every Regional Center has a student support desk, but it is not there to help students, but to torture them. The regional center IGNOU university staff does not treat students as human beings. Some claim that IGNOU has standard study material, but the 20% figure printed in the IGNOU book is incorrect.

The amount of Rs. 750 is required when you go for a re-evaluation of your exam paper if you do not receive the expected marks. Normal university fees are Rs. 150.

These are the main drawbacks of IGNOU distance and online learning.
