You can rely on NCERT books but it will be not enough if you are preparing for JIPMER Biology. Studying NCERT can help with your preparations but you shouldn’t depend entirely on it. There are no proper explanations or exercise questions for practice.

There are a few other books like Objective Biology by Dinesh, and Arihant Test Series along with NCERT. Reading more books will make your approach more insightful.

Yes, NCERT books are reliable for JIPMER preparation. JIPMER is merged with NEET so you have to set your focus on NEET and NEET follows NCERT mainly. So it's good that you follow NCERT for the preparation.

  • Studying NCERT thoroughly will ensure that you know each concept but NCERT doesn't have MCQs to practice that concept. So here you have to refer to another publication.
  • NCERT doesn't have shortcut methods or tricks to complete a question in minimum time. So you have to refer to books published especially for the exams like NEET.
  • NCERT doesn't have an explanation of many things. For example, any derivations in physics are so brief that you don't have any idea about the derivations. You have to refer to other books to study for NEET.

NCERT alone isn't enough because exams like NEET & JEE are to test your in-depth knowledge which could be gained only if you study various books for strengthening your base.
