MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2021)

JIPMER is ranked among the top five medical institutes in the country. The institute spreads across a huge area surrounded by lush greenery. It's known for its excellent facilities like a super specialty hospital, an emergency 24*7 hospital, a woman and child health care hospital, a general hospital, a nursing institute, a hostel complex, and the faculty and doctors’ residential areas.

A typical day at JIPMER begins around 8 in the morning with the first lecture from 8-9 followed by another from 9–10 am for the first, second, and third-year students, and clinics for the final years students. The clinical posting continues till 1in the afternoon after which the lunch begins. The lunch break lasts for an hour and is followed by afternoon lectures or practicals till 4–30 p.m. The first, second, and third-year students are free after 4:30 while final-year students have to go for additional clinical postings, labor room duty, or case follow-up in the evenings.

September is the most vibrant month as it witnesses the annual fest Spandanand the entire college is in celebration mode. Many other events take place throughout the year to make campus life lively.

You will be amazed by the clinical departments and case exposure. The institute gives immense importance to examination and attendance so one needs a lot of perseverance and dedication to get a degree from JIPMER.

MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research,Pondicherry (2021)

One of my friends studied at Jawaharlal Institute Of Postgraduate Medical Education And Research (JIPMER). According to him, it is a prominent institute and has its campus in Pondicherry as well as in Karaikal. It was ranked 8th in 2020 by NIRF.

Let me give you the details of JIPMER, I got to know from my friend.

Pros:

Academics:

  • You can find a more strict curriculum in JIPMER Karaikal than in Pondicherry.
  • The regulation is quite concerned about the quality of education the students receive.

Faculty:

  • The faculty is highly experienced and very cooperative.
  • As the intake of the student is less this leads to better teacher-student interaction.

Senior-Junior Bond:

  • You will find 2 senior batches in Karaikal and hence this makes the bond between senior and junior quite strong.
  • In Pondicherry there are 4 batches. There might be chances of ragging in the college but nothing will be out of the line.

Hostel Facilities:

  • The hostels are better in Karaikal than Pondicherry campus.

Cons:

Lab Facilities:

  • The first year practicals will go well, but later advanced practicals will get tougher. This is due to the mediocre lab facilities.

Clinical Exposure:

  • Pondicherry campus here has a plus point and is quite famous in the southern part of India.
  • Due to more people in Pondicherry the facilities are better and improved.
  • Karaikal till now doesn't have its own clinic, thus lacks exposure and involvement.

Language:

  • Yes, as the locals mainly speak Tamil the students are asked to learn Tamil. This is mandatory.

Apart from this, I would say the tag of JIPMER plays a major role as it is a well-recognized name in the medical field. It doesn’t matter if you are from either of two as long as you have that JIPMER in your profile. Also, the education given and the skills developed in the students are well known.

Yes there will be hustle in the start but as you know with great facilities, come greater compromises.
