B.Math from Indian Statistical Institute (2021)

A typical day at ISI Kolkata looks something like the following.

  • Most students usually wake up around 8 am, have breakfast, and get ready for classes around 9:45 am.
  • Classes start at 10:05 am. There’s a lunch break from 12:55 pm to 2:15 pm. Classes resume after the lunch break.
  • After classes students usually come back to hostels and unwind.

Being a research institute, the academic pressure is quite high. Most students usually stay up till 3 am, to keep up with the course work. The campus doesn’t have many social activities going on. But ISI Kolkata has decent sports facilities.

Studied at Indian Statistical Institute (2017)

I can share one of the experiences of my friend, who studied at ISI Kolkata. They used to sleep for two hours between 3-5 am. But he had to wake up by 8 am as classes start at 10 am. Once up, he used to freshen up and eat at students’ owned mess.

He shared few details with me about the curriculum as well:

  • There were 2 classes of 90 mins before lunch. Some of the statistical concepts were completed in 1 hour.
  • Then there is a lunch break for 1 hour in which you can eat at ISI canteen. There you can get tea and also desserts.
  • The next class starts from 2 PM till 4 PM. In this class, you can see even faculties feel tired. But don’t worry, you are allowed to take 15 mins to break in between.
  • Now, coming back to the hostel from long tiring classes, you can have some time to pass as You can watch movies or relax.
  • Dinner was done by 8:30. After that, you can play table tennis for 1–2 hrs.

So, this is the basic daily routine at ISI Kolkata. You will be total packed up for hours and hours with minimum breaks. But on weekends if you complete your assignments, you can go for outings in and around Kolkata.
