To calculate your percentage from SGPA, you must first know your CGPA. There is a simple formula for that. It is-

CGPA= Credits*SGPA/Total number of credits

Suppose you got 7 and 8.5 SGPA in your first two semesters respectively, and there are 25 credits in each semester. Then, your CGPA will be-

(25*7+ 25*8.5)/50= 7.75

Thus, your CGPA for the first year will be 7.75.

Next, to calculate CGPA from percentage, you need to follow this formula-

Percentage= (CGPA- 0.75)*10

In this hypothetical scenario, your percentage will turn out to be-

(7.75-0.75)*10=70

So, your percentage in the first year will be 70%.

This is how you can figure out your CGPA and percentage from your SGPA. Moreover, you can figure out your semester-wise percentage by replacing CGPA with SGPA in the percentage formula.

JNTUK University grads students using Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Commutative Grade Point Average (CGPA). You can convert your CGPA to percentage using the following formula.

% of marks = (final CGPA - 0.5)*10

Students earn grade points (GP) in each subject/course on the basis of the grade they secure in that subject. The credit points are computed by multiplying the grade point by the credits for that subject or course.

Credit points (CP) = grade point (GP)*cradits

The semester grade point average (SGPA) is calculated by diving the sum of credit points secured in all subjects or courses registered in that semester, by the total number of credits registered during that semester. SGPA is rounded to two decimal places.

\(SGPA = {\sum_{i=1}^{N} C_iG_i} / {\sum_{i=1}^{N} C_i}\)

Where ‘i’ is the subject indicator index (takes into account all subjects in a semester). ‘N’ is the number of subjects registered for the semester. C is the number of total credits allotted to the ith subject, and G is the grade point received for the ith subject.

Commutative Grade Point (CGPA) is the measure of the overall cumulative performance of a student in all semesters. It is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in all courses in all the semesters, and the total number of credits for all semesters. CGPA is also rounded off to two decimal places.

\(CGPA = {\sum_{j=1}^{M} C_j G_j } / {\sum_{j=1}^{M}C_j}\)

Where ‘j’ is the subject indicator index, ‘M’ is total number of subjects the student registered for. C is the number of credits allocated to the jth subject and G represents the grade points (GP).

Let's say a student scores 327 total credit points and the total credits are 42, then his/her CGPA will be - CGPA = 327/42 = 7.79.

So, % of Marks = (7.79 - 0.5) *10 = 72.9.

SGPA is “Semester Grade Point Average”, while CGPA is abbreviated from “Cumulative Grade Point Average”.

Here is a detailed overview of the conversion followed at JNTU, Hyderabad:

SGPA

  • It is usually evaluated at the end of every semester.
  • You can evaluate the grading all by yourself with the formula as mentioned,
    SGPA= Σ (Ci * Gi) / Σ Ci, (Wherein, Ci = Credit for the course and Gi = Obtained Grade Point.)

CGPA

  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), on the contrary, is evaluated by the end of the last semester.
  • It is estimated by determining the average from the first year of the course to the end semester.
  • It helps in providing the cumulative report of the student.
  • Here is the determinant formula of the same,
    CGPA= Σ (Ci * Si) / Σ Ci, (Wherein, Si is the SGPA of the nth semester and Ci is the total number of credits offered in it.)

Here is how you can calculate the percentage from CGPA -- [The CGPA you have secured – 0.75] x 10 = Percentage of marks scored.

For instance, if you have secured 8.67 of CGPA, then the percentage will be evaluated as: [8.67 – 0.75] x 10 = 79.2%.
