Yes, if you enroll in the PGPM program, you must reside in a hostel for the first year; you can choose to live off campus in the second year, but no one does.

It is truly beneficial that one must live in a hostel; otherwise, it is extremely difficult to complete all of the submissions and work in groups. Group project meetings are usually held at 11 p.m. or later, around midnight, making it difficult to attend if you are not on campus.

Furthermore, because subscriptions for these resources are validated using IP addresses, you will be unable to use them outside of the IIM campus.

However, the amazing part is that the campus is so beautiful that once you start staying there, you will despise the idea of staying anywhere else.

Yes, you have to reside at the hostel once you get enrolled for the course at IIM Bangalore. It is mandatory for first-year students to stay in the campus hostel. However, you can choose to shift to off-campus accommodation in the second year. There you have to manage the cost of living by yourself.

Honestly, once you start living in the campus hostel of IIM Bangalore you would refrain from choosing off-campus accommodation. Here’s why:

  • You will be at ease of balancing work and life due to close proximity to the campus facilities.
  • These include daily necessities like classrooms, professors, and administration.
  • The hostel mess and various canteens provide amazing food. On the contrary, if you choose to live outside, you have to manage time for cooking.
  • There's no denying the fact that you will have a lot of fun with friends and hostel peers.
  • You will be provided with regular room service by the hostel staff which is absolutely free of extra charge. In this way, you won’t be wasting time on cleaning, etc.
  • Prompt availability of plumber, electrician, etc.
  • Even if you have a family to live with, then you can stay at MDB blocks i.e. 2/3 BHK inside the campus.

Most people do not want to move outside the hostel because of the endless benefits the beautiful campus has to offer. The facilities, food, and friends make these two years one of the unforgettable years of your life. Overall, staying in the hostel will save you a lot of time and effort which you can devote to excel in academics.
