IIM Ahmedabad is, in no way comparable to universities like Stanford and Harvard by any means. The points below give sufficient reasons that prove the fact that these state universities are way ahead of IIM Ahmedabad.

IIM is not a university, but an institute providing only management degrees and diploma courses in different specializations. But, Stanford and Harvard are universities that provide courses in almost all streams and subjects.
IIM Ahmedabad is not listed among the top management schools around the world. But, Harvard Business School and Stanford Graduate School of Business have consistently been the top management schools in the world for many years.
There are many eminent personalities who, even after having the IIM tag, went to foreign universities for further studies for international recognition. For example, Raghuram Rajan. He went to Sloan School of Management, MIT for a Ph.D., after having an MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad.

For an Indian, IIM Ahmedabad is always the best management school. But for having international recognition, there are many universities across the world that are way ahead of IIMs in terms of studies, placement, opportunities, etc.
