studied at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (2020)

Due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation, XLRI took interviews online for 2021-23 batch. My brother had a zoom interview for XLRI BM. He completed Integrated M.Sc from IIT Kanpur and then pursued M.Phil and Ph.D. from Tilburg University.

The interview lasted for 40 mins. There were four interviewers.

  • After the introduction round they asked him about his Ph.D. and why he didn’t complete it.
  • They asked him whether he has any backup plan in case he wasn’t selected.
  • There were also questions on his hobbies, his career choices after MBA, his job interview experience.
  • They ended the interview with some questions on current affairs.

Overall, his XLRI Interview experience was smooth.

Considering the excellent reputation of XLRI, the interviews of XLRI are also equally interesting. The points below are based on the interview experience of my brother, who was a 2016 candidate for the XLRI HRM program.

  • My brother was called for the morning slot, along with 10 other candidates. They were made to wait for 30 minutes and then called for group discussion.
  • In the GD round, all candidates sat with pens and papers in their hands. There were two panelists for the GD, who were professors of XLRI.
  • The topic for GD was “Money is the sole factor for progress and promotion at the workplace”.
  • The pattern of GD followed was a structured outcome of pros, cons, and some implementation issues related to the topic.
  • In the PI round, the first question was where he is from. This was followed by some questions related to the cleanliness of the city, i.e. – Allahabad.
  • The next question was about his work experience in Infosys, starting from the requirement of training in companies. Followed by that, he was asked about the need for engineering and the use of the knowledge gained in the university
  • After 25 minutes of questioning, the panelists became quiet and said the interview is over. Even a panelist stood up and fetched a glass of water for my brother.
  • In the end, the panelists praised him for having a charming personality and having a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

During the entire interview, there was a lot of grilling, disbelief, contempt, sarcasm, etc which my brother had to face, followed by a smooth last-minute talk. To conclude, he got a straight convert into the HRM program at XLRI.
