One of my friends attended Symbiosis School of Economics and here’s his input about the institute.

  • You will be expected to pay around INR 2.25 lakhs per year and you will not get to choose your specialization. It will be based on an arbitrary write-up and an interview after your first year. You will not directly get to pursue the subject on the basis of your interest.
  • Most students are not interested in subjects like DS and UD. You will see that there aren’t that many placements in those fields and the management does not put much effort to increase them. Moreover, they increase admissions to these fields to keep the branches alive.
  • Information on placements is missing and the coordinator will not provide any help on this. The information provided on the brochures is also quite misleading as some firms may have come a couple of years ago and they are still mentioned on the brochure which is not up to date.
  • A majority of the recent pass outs are also unemployed, mainly because of covid. Many of the ones who managed to get placed got average paying jobs of INR 4 to 5 LPA.
  • There is no way to connect to alumni or alumni network groups.
  • You will also find that Youtube and Coursera are better at teaching academics.
  • You will have to attend many pointless workshops under the pretext of ‘compulsory attendance’. Most of them are quite a waste of time.

So, it will be wise to not consider Symbiosis School of Economics for your degree. If you have other options go for it.
