NIT Trichy has great placements for branches like CSE and ECE. Most of the recruiting companies give preference to B.Tech students rather than M.Tech. But as far as Communications Engineering is concerned, you will be allowed to appear for placement drives held by semiconductor companies with B.Tech students. 

There are quite a few companies that prefer Communications students over VLSI. Many students end up being placed in dream semiconductor companies. Out of say, 35 students, only 1 or 2 are not placed. The placements are definitely improving over the years.

It is advisable to have basic coding knowledge at least along with your core subject. That way, you will definitely be able to do well.

NIT Surathkal is ranked 21st in the engineering category by NIRF ranking 2019. It is one of the oldest and pioneer technical institutes in India. The institute offers an excellent placement record of 92-95% for the undergraduates every year.

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) was deemed to be a university approved by AICTE and MHRD. It is an autonomous institute. It is located at Sangrur, Punjab. MTech in ECE is a 2 year full time course involving researching, designing, developing and testing of electrical equipment.

Electronics and Communications Engineers also consider and supervise the manufacturing of communications and broadcasting systems.

Both, IIT Bhubaneswar and IIIT Bangalore offer decent M.Tech in electronics and communication programs and provide good placement so it’s difficult to choose one institute over the other. Given below are a few factors which the students are required to consider before selecting between the two colleges:-

• Placement:In terms of placement, the average CTC of IIT Bhubaneswar stands out to be 11.5 lakhs/annum. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, IBM, etc visit the IIT Bhubaneswar campus for placement drive. Few well-known PSU named ISRO, IOCL, and ONGC were also part of the placement in 2019. Apart from the offered jobs, the final year students are offered internships with a good amount of pay. Highest CTC touched approx 39 lakhs/annum. In 2019 from the electronics and communication field almost 86% of students got a decent placement from the campus.

IIT Bangalore showed remarkable progress by having 100% placement in 2019. Top recruiters were Accenture, McAfee, Tyfon, KayBus, etc. The average placement package was around 17.5 lakh/annum while the highest CTC was around 54 LPA.

• Eligibility:In IIT Bhubaneswar to get admission in MTech, a minimum of 60% marks are required in the Graduation level, and the cutoff score in the GATE exam (70% weightage), candidates are also required to go through a written test and interview (30% weightage).

IIT Bangalore does not conduct any entrance test for the M.Tech course. The GATE result or JEE result is only considered for selection. The students are shortlisted on merit-basis. The graduation level % is also considered for the shortlisted students.

• Faculty:Professors of both places are quite helpful. Both the colleges maintain a high standard in selecting their faculty.
• Campus:The infrastructure of IIT Bhubaneswar is expanding and improving over time. The Infrastructure of IIT Bangalore is good and if we compare it to IIT Bhubaneswar, both are up to the mark.

M.Tech placements in IIT Bhubaneswar for ECE is quite impressive. Although for undergraduates, ECE is one of the new branches in IIT Bhubaneswar but M.tech in electronics and communication has been present at this institute for many years. The program duration is 2 years where the second year is fully dedicated for research purposes only. The M.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering program focuses on providing students an insight into research areas such as Communication Engineering, Signal Processing, and others.

Recently, IIT Bhubaneswar signed MoU with many universities for various purposes like research and student exchange. The institute also collaborates with foreign universities such as University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. Which gives the students excellent internship and research opportunities.

According to 2019 placement trends, almost 68% of the M.Tech batch got placed in core and other sectors. The highest number of job offers were from the core sector. A total of 89 companies visited the campus for placement drive and the average placement package offered was around 11 LPA.

Even though IIT Bhubaneswar is a new IIT, it offers a decent M.Tech program in ECE and has a good placement record. So, whether you should join M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar or not is up to you.

For admission into M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar, students are shortlisted on the basis of their GATE score. This institute conducts a written test and an interview to select the shortlisted student for admission. Before the interview, the selected candidates need to appear in a written test, and only those who pass the test are considered eligible for the interview. There is no negative marking in the test and the subjects covered for ECE are Communications, Signals, EMT, Digital, Analog, EDC, and Maths.

The pattern of the written test is as follows:

• 35 questions for 90 minutes.
• 1-20 questions which are 1 mark questions.
• 21-35 questions which are 2 marks questions

The result of the written test is declared within one hour of the exam. And, the selected students are required to go through an interview in order to get admission. You may have the interview on the same day or the day after the written test. The interview takes about 15-20 minutes and the interview panel will have at least 4 members. Questions asked during the interview are mostly from your B Tech project, your choice of subject. If you get selected, the institute will let you know via email after a few days.
