Do AIIMS hostels provide separate rooms for students?

RR
Rahul Rao Posted On : November 16th, 2022
M.B.B.S. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

The general answer is yes. AIIMS hostels do provide separate rooms for students. But this does not apply to every AIIMS.

For example, AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Raebareli provide separate rooms but AIIMS Raipur doesn’t. The 1st year students have to share rooms with 3-4 other students.

So it all depends on which AIIMS hostel you are in.

I got AIIMS Raipur in the 2nd round of counseling. Should I leave Seth GS for that?

MT
Mukund Tapdiya Posted On : November 16th, 2022
Studied at All India Institute of Medical Sciences

Whether you should leave Seth GS for AIIMS or not can be understood only after going through a general comparison between the two:

Academics: The academics of both colleges are somewhat similar.

Lifestyle: KEM is located in Mumbai so you will have to go through the metro lifestyle which includes pollution, crowd, and an unhygienic lifestyle.

Hostel: Hostel facilities are much better in AIIMS than in KEM. Also, KEM does not provide hostel facilities to 1st-year students. The hostels in KEM are very crowded.

Crowd: KEM has a larger batch and there might be crowding.

The final decision is yours.

Should I choose AFMC over AIIMS Raipur or any new AIIMS?

NM
Naomie Mredha Posted On : November 16th, 2022
M.B.B.S. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (Expected 2023)

Every AIIMS is good and not much comparable. But if you compare it to AFMC, there are some things you need to know.

Firstly AFMC has a bond of 1 cr rupees if you want to quit after MBBS. But the infrastructure of AFMC Isi is exceptionally good. It just does not provide you the basic medical facilities but trains you in shooting, swimming, working in challenging conditions, daily PT, etc. All this will prepare you for a tough future.

The best part of AIIMS on the other hand is no bond is required to be signed. AIIMS focuses on medical facilities only. The classrooms are well-designed. The library, playground, gym, and other facilities add to the overall infrastructure of the college.

I will recommend that you go for AIIMS if you are willing to pursue PG right after MBBS. AFMC on the other hand lets you pursue PG only after serving for a fixed period of time. But don’t worry, the internship offers a good amount of money.

How much is the monthly stipend in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Patna, Raipur, and Rishikesh for an MD (radiodiagnosis)?

VG
Vastal Garg Posted On : November 16th, 2022
M.B.B.S. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Expected 2024)

Rather than a stipend, students at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Patna, Raipur, and Rishikesh are offered salaries that involve the deduction of taxes. The total salary of a Junior Student both clinical and non-clinical is around INR 90000/month. After the deduction of taxes and house rent, it amounts to INR 76000/month.

These figures keep changing with time.

Does AIIMS Raipur have a uniform for first-year MBBS students?

Muskan Shafi Posted On : April 5th, 2024

AIIMS Raipur does not have any uniforms for freshers. However, it is expected that every MBBS student must wear a white apron with their name written on it, above the institution logo.

Although, freshers at AIIMS Raipur do not have any uniforms professors and seniors advise freshers to always be dressed formally. Boys in Formal Shirts and Pants and Girls in Kurthis with formal shoes. Doctors need to look decent, which aids in building their trustworthy among patients. Mostly, during clinical postings, students will be subjected to patient interaction. To-be-doctors need to build their image and trust with patients. Hence, freshers at AIIMS Raipur are advised to be formally dressed.

How is an MS in surgery at Allied AIIMS Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Patna, and Bhopal?

PA
Puneet Aarya Posted On : June 4th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

General surgery at any of the AIIMS provides a lesser hands-on experience as there are so many MCh residents/Non-Academic. A surgery resident at AIIMS Rishikesh is posted in General Surgery as well as through all the surgical super-specialties. There will be a lot to learn here and the faculties are also good. Residents are made to do minor surgeries independently like Hydrocoele, Appendicectomy, etc. But in AIIMS you will just be assisting in most of the surgeries. You might be allowed to do these surgeries in the senior year although the number is very less. The institute usually handles complex cases so you might have little knowledge on general cases. The emergency cases are managed by JR and SR only. So you will get a lot of experience here.

You will be doing very minimal work on surgical super-specialties like Plastics, Surgical Gastro, Surgical onco, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Urology et cetera. A unique aspect of AIIMS Rishikesh is its separate IBCC (Integrated Breast care center) under Dept of General Surgery which focuses on the multifaceted management of Breast cases in one place. So you will get the best hands-on experience here.

AIIMS Rishikesh General Surgery has 3 units. Each unit focuses on one or two of the organ systems like the colorectal unit, Hepato-pancreatic-biliary unit, etc.

Despite it all, I think pursuing surgery from a state college is better than the central institutes unless you are willing to do MCh in a particular branch.

Can someone give me a priority order for these MBBS colleges Seth Gs , Grant, KGMU, BHU, CMC Vellore, AIIMS (except Delhi)?

NM
Nikhil Mishra Posted On : November 18th, 2022
M.B.B.S. from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (Graduated 2017)

Every college is good in one or the other aspects. Its location, faculty, and infrastructure are the main factors that determine a college's priority. The following list contains the colleges in order of priority based on their pros and cons.

Pros:

  • BHU: No requirement to sign a bond

  • Seth GS: Located in Mumbai with the best academic structure

  • KGMU Lucknow: The location and academic structure are perfect.

  • Other AIIMS: No need to sign any bond and the fee structure is affordable. AIIMS tag can help you with USMLE purposes.

Cons:

  • BHU: Located in Varanasi, it lacks the facilities of metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai

  • Seth GS: Mumbai is expensive and a bond of 1 year needs to be signed

  • CMC Vellore: You will have to learn Tamil as it is located South India. The fee structure is pretty expensive.

  • Other AIIMS: They are usually not located in a good location except for Bhopal and Bhubaneswar.

The preferred order as per the pros and cons can be - BHU> AIIMS> KGMU> Grant> Seth GS> CMC Vellore

One college can be good for you but bad for others. This is because your own needs determine which college is best for you. So choose wisely.

Are you a student of AIIMS Raipur? If yes, how's your experience over there?

SS
Shubham Sharma Posted On : November 16th, 2022
2nd year MBBS student from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Expected 2025)

My friend is a student of AIIMS Raipur. She shared her experience of her college life there.

The campus is situated a bit far from the residential areas. The faculty is very professional and experienced. They cooperate with you throughout the medical examination process.

What catches the eye is the cleanliness of the campus. It’s exceptionally well-maintained and tidy.

The library is massive with an extensive collection of academic books. The annual fest Oriana is a fun-filled event that every student of AIIMS Raipur looks forward to. Many trips are also planned to develop good relationships between students.

My friend says her experience in AIIMS Raipur was one of a kind.

Is it worth choosing AIIMS, Raipur over Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur for an MBBS?

DP
Devpriyo Pal Posted On : November 16th, 2022
Former Intern at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur (2017-2018)

I would personally recommend you choose AIIMS Raipur over Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College. Although there are many reasons that have gotten me to this conclusion, I will list down the core reasons that will help you make up your mind.

Pros-

  • AIIMS Raipur is a central institute that lays more emphasis on quality education.

  • You don’t have to sign any bonds

  • You get to meet a better crowd. This is because AIIMS Raipur constitutes the cream of medical students. Whereas in Pt. JNM, people who are not selected in other colleges usually get admitted.

  • The infrastructure is equally good in both colleges. But the hostel facilities are horrible in Pt. JNM.

  • The DKR super specialty hospital is the pride of AIIMS Raipur.

  • AIIMS Raipur is house to a full-fledged sickle cell research institute

  • AIIMS Raipur also has an advanced Cardiac Institute and a new regional cancer center building

Cons-

  • The patient load at Pt.JNM is comparatively less than that at AIIMS Raipur This helps you protect your quality over quantity agenda. This is also a must needed skill for every doctor.

  • Pt. JNM has an extensive aluminum base whereas AIIMS Raipur lacks in this aspect.

  • The faculty at AIIMS Raipur is understaffed. Whereas at Pt.JNM the faculty is experienced and also satisfies the MCI criteria.

I hope the points helped you reach a decision.
