How good is the department of financial studies MBA (FM), Delhi University?

My brother was a student at this college and so this answer is based on his experience solely. The Department of Financial Studies is a CFA-affiliated college wherein you can get a scholarship for pursuing a CFA degree. Its MBA program is highly coveted. It's the best option for you if you want to pursue a career in Finance and fail to make it to other B Schools. Here are some factors to consider

  • Fees: The low fees charged by DFS is the USP of the college. You can pursue an MBA at just 26000. IIMs fees on the other end are very high Around 13–24 lakhs. So DFS offers a better ROI than IIMs.
  • Curriculum: Curriculum-wise, DFS cannot be compared to IIMs that have excellent course structure at par with foreign universities. DFS follows the semester pattern, unlike the trimester pattern in IIMs. IIMs conduct case study competitions but this is not the case at DFS.
  • Faculty : DFS has some very well-educated and experienced faculty members much better than at least the new IIMs.
  • Placement: The placements at DFS are at par with new IIMs only and not other top IIMs.
  • Alumni: The small batch size of DFS has failed to establish an elaborate alumni base in contrast to IIM Ahmedabad.

Ultimately, if you don’t want a huge loan to repay at the end of 2 years or the IIM tag, DFS is the best option

AB

MBA programs from Delhi University's MBE and DFS colleges have a good reputation and are considered to be reputable institutions. Usually, the average salary for MBA graduates from Delhi University's MBE and DFS colleges is around INR 12-15 LPA. However, an MBA is not just about the salary package. It is a great way to develop your leadership, management, and strategic thinking skills, which can be beneficial regardless of your career path.

I feel it's totally worth doing an MBA from DFS as it offers specialized courses in Financial Management with a primary focus on finance. It offers the best ROI amongst the top colleges in the country. Its fee is as low as INR 26k while the average package hovers around 12-15 LPA.

Overall, DFS and MBE are not comparable with prestigious colleges like FMS and IIMs but are a great platform for Management education.

For an MBA in Finance, IIM C/I/A/B will be the best option. DFS is also good for Finance. For MBA Marketing, FMS/IIM-A/IIM-B is better. IIMs are also best for HR or IT. The Department of Finance isn't an independent college with its campus. It's a department within the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Delhi. The University of Delhi itself has a sprawling campus spread across 300 acres, but DFS DU students generally attend classes and participate in activities across various buildings within the South Campus, which is approximately 69 acres. EG
Epil Gagrai Posted On : April 19th, 2024

DFS DU does not have any tie-ups with banks. The college fees are already low compared to other colleges i.e Rs. 48,500 therefore students generally don't take a loan. Public banks like SBI, BOB, Union Bank, etc as per their policies can provide up to only 7.5 lakhs of rupees for student loans without collateral irrespective of the course and country. This loan includes hostel fees, mess charges, the cost of a laptop which is vital for an MBA, education loan insurance, a security deposit, and other charges put by the college.
