NIT Jamshedpur is much better than NIT Patna. NIT Patna lacks the necessary facilities. Moreover, its campus is very small in size. My brother completed his B.Tech Mechanical from NIT Patna, and this information was given to me by him.
NIT Jamshedpur has a better campus, and its placements are also comparatively better. But if you are an IES, GATE, etc. aspirant, NIT Patna is slightly better for you. It is located in the main city because of which, it has easy access to good coaching centers like Madeeasy and Ace.
I completed my M.Tech in Microelectronics & VLSI Design from NIT Patna. From my specialization, NIT Patna students get selected in PSUs like BSNL, etc. But for PSUs, the students usually look towards cracking the GATE exam.
Other than that, companies like AMD and STMicroelectronics offer internships to worthy students from Microelectronics & VLSI. The alumni network is quite strong in this M.Tech specialization, with its alumni having interned at STMicroelectronics, AMD, Infineon, Intel, IIT Hyderabad, and RRCAT. Some of the alumni work at organizations like General Motors, Cadence Noida and core companies in Japan.
The faculty is quite good with dedicated members like Dr. Gaurav Kaushal, Dr. Bharat Gupta, and others.
At NIT Patna, or any other IITs and NITs, you are expected to work hard during your Masters’. I would recommend you set clear goals for yourself. Some Masters’ students decide to prepare for ESE/ PSUs while others sharpen their skills to get placed in a core company in the private sector.
NIT Patna has carried this ‘NIT’ tag since 2004. Here are some advantages of joining NITP-
But I would like to warn you that the campus life isn’t really great at NIT Patna. However, the new Bihta campus of NIT Patna is expected to come into existence soon. It will be spread across 125 acres of land.
I would say that NIT Patna is doing quite well and it shouldn’t be compared to other NITs or Thapar. If you have the will to build a bright future for yourself, this institute will definitely help you achieve your dream.
NIT Patna is a decent choice for your CSE. The faculty isn’t top-notch and won’t really go out of their way to guide and support you. The curriculum is as challenging as any other Engineering institute.
The placements are witnessing an increase year on year. During 2021 placements, the highest package of 44 LPA was offered to a single student from B.Tech CSE by Adobe. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Samsung, and Amazon visit the campus for IT recruitment. IBM also recruits candidates from CSE. The average CTC during 2020 placements stood at INR 8.93 LPA for the CSE department.
The campus life at NIT Patna isn’t really great and the infrastructure is also not the best. Patna, however, offers coaching facilities for CAT/ IES/ GATE aspirants. Also, the new Bihta campus of NIT Patna is expected to come into existence soon.
Overall, NIT Patna CSE is a decent choice. You will be responsible for enhancing and polishing your skills through online platforms.
First-year NIT Patna boys are allotted separate hostels with two/three-seater rooms. The rooms are not very great. There are single seater rooms also, but they are very small in number. There are three hostels for fresher boys- Sone Hostel Block A and B, Kosi Extension near Ganga Ghat, and Ganga Hostel.
From the second year onwards, you will get a different hostel. There are mainly double-seater rooms in this one. Only 10 out of 500 rooms are four-seater. In this hostel, you will get to meet your seniors.
The mess food isn’t good. Drinking water, common rooms, and washrooms are good. The premises have space where you can play underarm cricket, badminton and volleyball. In the fresher hostels, you won’t encounter any seniors. I don’t know much about the Girls’ hostel, just the name- Ganga Hostel.
Overall, the boys’ hostels are pretty average at NIT Patna. The senior hostel is comparatively better and new.
NIT Patna is the 3rd oldest Engineering college in India after IITR and College of Engineering, Pune. It became an NIT in 2004. It is known for its B.Tech Civil and M.Tech Water Resource Engineering programs. The list of notable alumni from NIT Patna includes- Nitish Kumar, P.A. Sangama, R.K. Sinha, and many IAS officers and other top professionals.
Top companies like HPCL, BPCL, Amazon, SnapDeal, Samsung, TATA Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and more visit the campus for placements. The college is working to improve its infrastructure, labs, and extracurricular facilities. Its placements are improving year on year.
NIT Patna has a small campus, however, its Bihta campus is expected to come into existence soon. This new campus will cover 125 acres of land.
The student-teacher interaction at NITP is good. The faculties possess good knowledge of their field. Railway stations and airports are located near the campus, allowing for good connectivity. You can easily access coaching centers for GATE/ IES/CAT in Patna.
Overall, NIT Patna is a decent institute and it is upon you to make the most of your stay there.
