Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

To make it easier, I have drawn a comparison between the two institutes based on the most common parameters

  • Infrastructure: Being the oldest IIT, Roorkee's main building is a historic building and one of the most prestigious ones in the whole country.
  • Location: Unlike Delhi, IIT Roorkee is located in an extremely placid and clean area and is the winner when compared to IIT Delhi's polluted location. Moreover, IIT Roorkee has many explorable tourist areas where one can spend their weekends peacefully.
  • Exposure: Being the oldest IIT, its huge alumni spread across the country and is extremely approachable.
  • Sports: IIT Roorkee is well known for its sports culture in the form of its sports champs at Inter IIT and various other competitions. It provides the perfect mix of academics and extracurricular activities.
  • Coding Culture: IIT Roorkee has witnessed many foreign internships and placements owing to its rich coding culture.
  • Branch change: Unlike IIT Delhi where you are eligible for branch change after an entire year, IIT Roorkee allows you to change branches right after the first semester.
  • Research: Placements-wise both IITs are equally good but if you are a research enthusiast, IIT Roorkee is the get-go.

IIT Roorkee is clearly the winner here and I would recommend you to go for it if you want to explore maximum opportunities.

studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

IIT Delhi is a better option among these. Due to the locational advantage of Delhi, most engineering aspirants and faculties choose IIT Delhi. It also has a better placement record. According to the recent highlights of IIT Delhi placements, the average CTC received by the students is INR 16 LPA. More than 600 companies visit the campus placement each year. IIT Delhi is better in terms of academics, placements, and job opportunities.

B.Arch. Architecture, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (2020)

One of my relatives did his Post-Graduation in Delhi and at present, he is working in Roorkee. However, he spent a maximum of 2 years in both of these places. Following are some facts are highlighted about both of these institutes.

Academics

  • In this aspect, IITD takes credit concerning several streams like B.Tech and M.Tech.
  • However, faculties in IITD always make a race with each other concerning the facts related to Ph.D. funds and research publications with constant focus.
  • Students here are completely devoted to their respective research supervisors, along with their doctoral degrees.
  • So, IITD and IITR are similar to some specific academic cases, but Delhi has many advantages over Roorkee.

Sports

  • IITR provides a wide range of advantageous sports activities like river rafting and mountaineering.
  • However, badminton, cricket, football are somewhat common in both of these institutes.

Pollution

  • The outside area of IITD is much polluted.
  • Concerning this, IITR has a cleaner atmosphere, as this institute is nearer to River Ganga and Himalayan Mountain ranges.
  • Besides, Delhi is situated by the polluted river Yamuna's side, which is a national burden for this capital city.

Medical Fitness

  • To do any medical examination, like an MRI scan, Roorkee people have to go to Dehradun or Haridwar.
  • People from Delhi can go to AIIMS, which is 5km away from the city, which leads Delhi ahead of Roorkee.

Transport Facilities

  • E-rickshaws as well as traditional man-driven rickshaws can be seen in Roorkee still in recent days.
  • Additionally, car services are also accessible in Roorkee
  • However, in Delhi, there are metro, auto-rickshaws, cabs, and DTC buses.

Tourist Places

  • Delhi is a tourist spot; besides, there are some more tourist attractions like Mathura, Agra, that relax the tourist minds.
  • However, in Roorkee, people can visit Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Rishikesh.

Thus, considering the above facts, it can be stated that students can choose IITD for their B.Tech and M.tech study. But in the case of a Doctoral Degree, you must think concerning the facts related to supervisor and research areas.
