While many might suggest you go for DTU CS, and not run after the IIT tag, my opinion may vary. Had I been in your place, I would have chosen IIT Delhi any day over DTU because the exposure, opportunities, brand value, research opportunities, and top-notch education that come with it are worth a few boring Textile Courses.

Most importantly, IIT Delhi allows you to take electives in the field of your choice and you can always opt for CS electives for better placements. Some common courses undertaken by students who opt for non-core placements are

  • Data Structures
  • Algorithms
  • Operating Systems
  • Computer Architecture

With the right balance of basic textile education and these courses, you can avail of both, CS education as well as IIT tag. However, you will have to study some courses in which you are least interested, thereby wasting your time. This sacrifice is justifiable when you keep in mind the CS faculty of IIT Delhi which is far better than DTU.

DTU CS is better. You will have better placement opportunities. During DTU placements 2022, the average CTC offered to the CS graduates was INR 16-17 LPA. The highest CTC received by the students was INR 1.08 Crore (international). As a CS graduate, you will also have many job profiles to choose from. DTU CS also offers better scope for pursuing higher education.

Textile is a niche field. Industries recruiting Textile Engineering students are limited.

There are very few opportunities in the field of Textile Engineering. The main reason is the restriction on future jobs and opportunities. The number of industries hiring Textile Engineers is at most 1 or 2. Studying textile engineering for four years can be quite difficult if you are not truly interested in the branch. So, do not go for it, just for the IIT tag that comes along with it.

The interviewer hires students based on their skills and not for the college.

Future Prospect: (CS>Textile)

  • If we look upon the future aspect for example IIM Admissions, the Interviewers at Personal Interview session judges the proficiency in the subject chosen by the students in their graduation. The curriculum of textile engineering includes some of the difficult topics such as the strength of fibers. You will need to work hard to be proficient in these subjects.
  • Even for MS Admissions in the USA, there are very few colleges and courses available for Textile. The job prospect is also limited after the completion of such courses.
  • If we compare CS with Textile, it is seen that Computer science is one of the growing industries in India as well as abroad and it is getting diverse day by day. Technology has entered our day to day life, from robots to self-driven cars, the extent of computer science is getting colossal.

Placements: (CS>Textile)

The average placement stats of both the colleges do not have much difference but if you choose CS, then there are more chances and opportunities for you in the coming future.

The table below shows the recent placement statistics for CS at DTU and Textile at IIT Delhi.

Category

DTU

IIT Delhi

Average CTC

12.08 LPA

12 LPA

Highest CTC

1.07 Crore

45 LPA

DTU is a good college. Students choose DTU after some of the top IITs. So, you can definitely go for DTU.
