What is the course structure for BA Eng in IGNOU?

The BA English degree provided by IGNOU is approved by UGC. As of 2018, the new IGNOU BA English program is available with a credit system.

Students will have to choose from these credit-based courses every semester or year. The minimum credit to be accumulated by the end of 3 years of the BA English major degree program is 48 credits. Students will have to earn 16 credits each year. One credit is equal to 30 hours of study time. To earn a Bachelor’s Degree, students must complete 132 credits in six semesters.

Students will have to pay INR 8,100 as the total fee. The registration fee including the first year fee payment is INR 2,900.

Eligibility

• To take admission into the BA English program at IGNOU students must qualify 10+2 with passing marks or BPP from IGNOU.

• There is no age limit for this program.

• The course like any other at IGNOU offers flexible durations for completion of the same. The duration of the IGNOU BA English program is 3-6 years.

Pedagogy:

• IGNOU BA English program is taught through teleconferencing, radio counseling, telecast through DD Metro Channel, audio-video programs available as cassettes at the Programme Study Centres, and Assignments.

• Another important part of the program is the term-end examination which is conducted twice a year in June and December.

• This exam can be taken only after the completion of the course.

Students can also choose some skill-based elective courses as part of the program which includes the following.

• The Structure of Modern English

• Communication Skills in English

• Office Organisation and Management

• Marketing

• Nutrition for Community etc.

The BA English program of IGNOU is similar to that of the University of Delhi in courses like the teaching of texts like Things Fall Apart, The Awakening, Ibsen's A Doll House, Shakespeare's Macbeth, Attia Hossain's Sunlight on a Broken Column, and many such remarkable works of literature.
