IIT Dhanbad is a reputed engineering college. It has been an alma mater of numerous successful individuals.

Here is a list of some of them-

  1. Dr. Rabi Narayan Bastia- Dr. Bastia received the Padma Shri in 2007 for his discovery of the Krishna Godavari Basin. He was the Former Senior VP at Reliance Industries and serves as Adjunct Professor at ISM Dhanbad.
  2. Sharma Nand Sharma-Chairman of SEZ Developers Association of India. He is the owner of Surat SEZ, and CMD of Diamond & Gem Development Corporation.
  3. Vinay Kumar Dewan- Founder and chairman of Bramco Group, Bahrain.
  4. Dr. Ganesh Thakur- Vice President of Chevron Corporation, USA. 
  5. Dr. Mihir Sinha- Energy Finance Specialist, and former Vice President of J. P. Morgan USA. 
  6. Dr. Madan Singh- Director, Arizona Government's Department of Mines and Mineral Resources, USA.
  7. Waman Bapuji Metre- Received Padma Bhushan in 1968. Considered a Pioneer of the Indian oil industry. Played a major role in the establishment of ONGC. 
  8. Gulshan Lal Tandon- Received Padma Bhushan in 1986. Former CMD of Coal India.
  9. Narendra K Verma- Managing Director, ONGC Videsh Limited.
  10. Prof. R.K. Khandal- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London. Former Vice Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University. Former President of WAITRO, Malaysia (World Association of Industrial & Technological Research Organizations).
  11. Prof. Raja V. Ramani- Professor Emeritus of Mining Engineering, Penn State University, USA.
  12. Sunil Kumar Barnwal- IAS. Secured AIR 1 in Civil Services Exam, 1996.
