I gave an interview for my MBBS admission at CMC Vellore back in 2015. The interview pattern at CMC has been mostly unchanged for a long time. The process lasts for 3 days.

Here is the complete breakdown of the entire MBBS interview process at CMC Vellore:

  • The candidates are segregated into groups of 5 or 6.
  • Boys and girls are arranged into different groups.
  • Two G.O. (group observers) are assigned for each group.
  • The process comprises individual tasks, group tasks, GD and PI rounds.
  • The individual tasks judge how wisely the candidates can identify doable tasks, and if they can complete those tasks in a given period.
  • The group tasks focus on how well the team members communicate and cooperate. An example of the assigned tasks is- “Build a classroom with the given materials”.
  • During the GD, each team is given a particular topic of discussion. The group observers test how well the candidates can voice their opinions in front of others. My group received the topic-“Discuss the water shortage problem in our country and how to solve it.”

The final step is the PI. The G.O.s ask similar questions in different ways. It is important to answer with confidence and firmness. One of the most frequently asked questions is- “Why did you choose medicine?”

I am assuming you mean the interview for the MBBS program offered at CMC Vellore.

First, all the candidates are split into a group of 5-7 people. Each group is headed by two faculty members, called Group Observers. These observers conduct one-on-one interviews with each candidate over two days.

You will be asked about the reason for pursuing medicine, your goals and aspirations as a doctor, your life goals, your moral and ethical beliefs, and your special talent/ability.

You’ll also be given group tasks and individual tasks during these two days. These are simple, scenario-based tasks, used to test a candidate’s aptitude. GD is also conducted on a random relevant social issue. Candidates applying for a sponsorship may undergo a Bible test.

This is all that happens during the interview for MBBS seats at CMC Vellore.
