If you take my opinion then opting for IIT Gandhinagar for CSE is a better choice than going for ECE at IIT Guwahati. I am a student of IIT Gandhinagar and I can say that the CSE department is one of the best departments in terms of curriculums and placements.

  • IIT Gandhinagar offers 4 years full-time BTech program for CSE.
  • The average course fee for the first year is around INR 2.29 Lakhs.
  • IIT Gandhinagar holds a ranking of 18th position out of 200 colleges in the NIRF ranking.
  • The placement scenario for the department is good with 94.44% of students being placed in 2023
  • The median package is INR 25.06 LPA and the average package is INR 29.29 LPA.

I am assuming that you are asking this question after the first round of seat allocations are announced. If you are confused between IIT Gandhinagar CSE and IIT Guwahati ECE, consider the following points:

  • People may tell you that you can do coding along with ECE, but the reality is far from true. CSE is much more than coding. Its curriculum revolves around mathematical concepts like linear algebra, statistics, probability, logic, differential equations, etc.
  • Institute-wise, both options are equally good with IIT Gandhinagar having a slight advantage because of its early establishment. But the opening ranks are similar so both the colleges attract a similar crowd.
  • It’s a no-brainer that CSE offers better job opportunities than ECE. Currently, everything is about data sciences and artificial intelligence which has witnessed an increased demand for well-trained CSE engineers. Although CSE engineers from every college receive high pay, your IIT tag adds to the value.

Both the colleges will provide a good learning environment and ample opportunities so go for the one that aligns with your interests the most.
