As a former NIT Trichy student and a North Indian, I would say that regardless of which part of India you come from, you will have a great time here.
As soon as I entered NIT Trichy, I made friends from all across India. I experienced the beautiful infrastructure and amazing hostel life. Moving to a place with a hot climate and a completely different language i.e. Tamil was a new experience for me, however, I soon became accustomed to this change.
The NIT Trichy campus is huge. During our first year, we spent our leisure time playing T.T. in Diamond Hostel or cricket/football in the AGATE playground. We would go to the seniors and interact with them. The tech-fest Pragyan and cultural-fest Festember are worth waiting for.
The distance between the hostels and the lecture hall complex gets very tiring, especially because of the hot weather. A cycle will come in handy for you.
For boys, the hostel curfew is lifted from the 2nd year. During my first year at NIT Trichy, I shared my hostel room with three other people. But from 2nd year onwards, we were 2 people in a single room.
I loved night strolls in the hostel campus with my friends, enjoying the cool weather during the night after a hot day.
During the third year, you will go for summer internships and 4th year is all about placements and nostalgia.
If you join NIT Trichy, do visit Wayanad, Kodai, Pondi, Munnar, and other such fun locations with your friends. Though Trichy does not offer much in itself, it is surrounded by some of the best places to visit.
Also, be a part of inter-departmental cultural fests, Festember, Pragyan, and Departments' Tech Symposiums.
NIT Trichy is filled with good and bad experiences. Make sure to focus on the good ones and make the most out of your stay over there.
