Both the colleges you mentioned, SIBM Bangalore and Great Lakes Chennai are quite similar in various aspects like ROI, fees, and faculties.

In SIBM, you can enjoy the good weather of Bangalore and avail the opportunities of staying at the IT Capital of India. However, this doesn’t mean that reputed companies don’t visit the Great Lakes at all. The only advantage SIBM enjoys of being in Bangalore is that many small IT companies visit the Institutes only in Bangalore. This offers a wider plethora of opportunities than other institutes outside Bangalore.

Some big companies that visit both campuses include

  • Accenture
  • Wipro
  • Deloitte

The only difference is that in SIBM Bangalore, there are chances of more two-tier IT companies visiting.

Studied at Great Lakes Institute of Management

Both SIBM Bangalore and Great Lakes Chennai are equally good when it comes to fees, faculty, and Return Of Investment (ROI).

Though, SIBM Bangalore is the better choice due to the greater number of companies visiting the campus during placement.

The table below gives a brief overview of the two institutes.

Placement (Winner- SIBM Bangalore):

  • Bangalore is the greatest IT hub, having companies of every scale, small to large. But SIBM Bangalore has seen some additional small scale IT companies visiting the campus.
  • Great Lakes Chennai is also a decent institute for MBA and PGDM, in terms of placement. But some of the companies limit their recruitment to Bangalore colleges only.
  • Accenture, Deloitte, Wipro, etc are some of the large-scale companies which recruit in both the colleges. However, in SIBM Bangalore, there are more chances of Tier 2 companies.

Other highlights:

  • For freshers and candidates with less work experience (less than 2 years), SIBM Bangalore is always preferred.
  • The brand name of Symbiosis adds to the fame and candidates get preference in companies worldwide.

Therefore, in terms of factors related to exposure and a greater number of companies in placement, SIBM Bangalore is definitely the better choice.

PGDM Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Great Lakes Institute of Management (2018)

GLIM is counted amongst India’s leading business schools with the main campus in Chennai. It holds a ranking of 5 for private MBA, and 13 for MBA, by Outlook’20.

As a constituent of Symbiosis International University, SIBM Bengaluru, although being the second campus, is equally widespread and offers MBA programs in several specializations. It is ranked 30 for overall by MBA Universe.

Admissions:

GLIM Chennai- Introduced in 2012, PGDM is considered as the flagship course at GLIM Chennai, rated by AICTE and AMBA. Eligibility criteria rely on one of the XAT, GMAT, CMAT, CAT scores, and a Bachelor’s degree from any renowned college.

The course fee at GLIM is 19.25 lakhs. The student intake for PGDM is 180.

SIBM Bangalore- Eligibility criteria to MBA program at SIBM Bengaluru, constricts a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in graduation (45% or equivalent for SC/ST) from a recognized university and the SNAP test score.

The total seats for MBA are 200. The course fee is 14.50 lakhs.

Placements:

Talking about the placements, the colleges do not make much difference.

GLIM Chennai-

  • The placement rate for GLIM is 100% and around 90% for internship placements with PPOs.
  • Hitting the highest package of 29 LPA, and average around 9.5 LPA, top companies have offered job roles to students in huge sectors like consulting, IT, analytics, digital, product management, etc.

SIBM Bangalore- Placements for SIBM have been pretty well during the past 10 years.

  • Around 85-90% of students get placed each year.
  • The average package ranges around 10 lakhs per annum, while the highest package goes up to 30 LPA.

An advantage of SBIM is that being at the IT hub, some companies prefer going more to this college rather than the far ones.

Both the institute offers AICTE accredited management programs and has decent placement rates.
