IIEST Shibpur is one of the oldest public engineering colleges in India. NIRF/MHRD ranked IIEST Shibpur, 21st in Engineering Colleges in India. It has 19th rank in Week Top Engineering Colleges of 2020. The campus is not par as those of IITs in NITs, and infrastructure lags.

Admissions:

  • To secure admissions in B.Tech in Information Technology, a student must have 10+2 with 45% (for general category) and a minimum of 30% marks in English.
  • 50% of seats are reserved for candidates outside from West Bengal and 50% of seats for candidates domiciled in West Bengal.
  • The entrance for admissions is JEE Main (Paper 1). Final selection is done throughJoSAA Counselling and CSAB Special Board for admissions.
  • The cutoff ranking for In-state students in 2019 was between 9524-17031, and Outstate was 11084-13249.

Fees:The fees for BTech in IT are INR 1.37 lakhs per year, and MTech in IT is 81,500 per year.

Placements:

  • The students are offered internships to inculcate their skills and experience. The percentage of students placed in each specialization is 75.
  • There is relative consistency in placements from the IT section- 75% in 2017, 88.89% in 2018, and 75% in 2019. As of 2019, the highest recruiting batch isInformation Technology.
  • The top recruiters at IIEST Shibpur are Microsoft, Maruti, TCS, and HSBC Technologies.The total eligible students for placement were 68and 81 job offers were made.
  • The students with dual degree courses got placement in the IT branch as compared to CSE where no student got placed. Almost 50% of students got jobs. 10 were eligible in this course, and 5 students got employment.

Alumni:

Some of the notable alumni of IIEST Shibpur Engineering department are -Sir Rajvendra Nath Mookerjee- Founder of Martin & Co and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI);Sir Birendranath Mookerjee- Chairman of Steel Corporation of Bengal.

IT is one of the most demanded fields in IIEST Shibpur. One should opt for it owing to its growing placement rate. Even the cutoffs are easy to clear if a student is determined to get in. Dual degree courses are also preferred as they have a fixed 50% placement rate.
