Is an IIM Indore 5 year program worth it? What salary could one expect? Is it equivalent to doing the IIM MBA after the UG?

It is not equivalent to an IIM MBA because the candidates do not pass the CAT exam. As a result, the industry has not yet accepted the 5-year program.

In the five years that an IPM student spends at the institute, he or she is exposed to a plethora of excellent opportunities. Apart from institutionalized opportunities like social placements (after the third year), foreign exchange (9th term), and summer placements (4th year), there is a lot that happens as a part of the Students Activity Council. There are regular competitions for IPM students that not only award cash prizes but also provide excellent opportunities to interact with new people, make contacts, and learn new things.

Everyone has different expectations and the answer to this question will vary from person to person. Your parameters of judgement might be different from your friend's.

Following are some of the common criteria for judgement:

  • Placement: According to the official placement report of 2020, the average salary went up to INR 22.92 LPA, it was INR 15.16 LPA in 2018. There has been a cumulative increase and the figure is bigger than CTCs offered by other IITs, NITs, and NLUs in the country.
  • Selection Rate: The IPM Aptitude Test is taken by approx. 20,000 students annually and the number of seats is 120. The selection rate is around 0.006% which makes it tougher to crack than the CAT.
  • Dual Degree Incorporation: This is a relatively newer change, PGP students who take admission through CAT will get a dual degree of BA with a regular MBA.

Studying for five years in an IIM transforms your personality. You can become a part of social placements after the 3rd year, or sign up for foreign exchange programs in the 9th term and work for summer placements in the 4th year.

The Student Activity Council organizes a lot of meaningful events and programs which help in networking, celebration, and development of the self. The course will help you see beyond the scope of your field.
