Under a practical school program, you work with a mentor who supervises you and you can work on multiple projects to enhance your domain knowledge and skills. Practice School II is offered during the final year and is a 22-week full-time program. While students can wish for their desired company, allotment is based on merit. Cisco, GE, Dr Reddy’s, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are some of the top collaborators.

The advantages of Practice School II are as follows.

  • Students get practical experience and develop a deep understanding of the subject which will be helpful during the interviews.
  • Students can set a good CGPA score early on as completing Practice School II improves the CGPA.
  • Many students receive PPO (pre-placement offers) reducing the stress of placement during the second semester.

The only disadvantage I’d say is the limited recruitment as many

companies recruit during the first semester and project availability.

BITS Pilani’s practice School 2 (PS-2) in the first semester has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here's a breakdown to help students make an informed decision:

Advantages:

  • Subject Understanding: If you feel you need a deeper understanding of your subject before facing interviews, PS-2 can provide valuable practical experience.
  • CGPA Boost: Successfully completing PS-2 in the first semester can improve your CGPA early on, setting a strong academic foundation.
  • PPO Opportunities: Some companies may offer Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) based on your performance during PS-2, reducing the stress of placement in the second semester.

Disadvantages:

  • Limited Recruitment: Many companies recruit during the first semester, and if you're away on PS-2, you may miss out on these opportunities.
  • Project Availability: It can be easier to secure projects in the first semester by approaching faculty directly. PS-2 might limit your options in this regard.

In conclusion, taking PS-2 in the first semester at BITS Pilani is a mixed bag. It can be beneficial for those seeking a deeper subject understanding and CGPA boost, but it may limit your access to some early recruitment opportunities
