SIBM Pune is a reputed B-School and its MBA program ranks among the top 20 MBA programs in the country. It ranks a little behind the top B-schools like IIM ABCL, FMS, XLRI, etc. But it is ahead of tier 2 B-schools.

It is a great option for pursuing an MBA, especially for specializations in HR and Marketing. The institute has an impressive placement record. SIBM Pune placements 2022 have witnessed an average CTC of INR 23 LPA. While the highest CTC is 35 LPA.

SIBM is one of the best B-Schools ranked 15 amongst the top 15 B-Schools of India. Being a 40+-year-old institute SIBM has a very good reputation and goodwill, the infrastructure and campus is world class with all the basic and necessary facilities.

Pros:

  • SIBM curriculum is decent and structured to cover all the important and essential topics, the training provided on each topic is detailed and helps students become industry-ready. From assignments to practice lessons everything prepares a student to become a well-trained manager.
  • The visiting faculty is well experienced in their particular field and provides the best guidance to students. A friend of mine pursued her MBA from SIBM and had the pleasure to learn from reputed faculties like Manasi Phadke (Economics), Col. Sunil Brij Krishan (Organizational Behaviour), Shivram Apte.
  • The specialization based education system of the institute has a placement wise disadvantage. However, students learn more about the specialization in depth through this system. HR recruitment is done through the institute that has HR Specializations and not from General Management colleges. For HR SIBM is the 3rd best college after XLRI and TISS.

Cons:

  • The permanent faculty needs some improvement and the institute has to include some well-trained professionals as full-time faculty for the betterment of students.
  • The case-study method is not followed properly. Which is a big drawback for students - especially for students of core-marketing or HR specialization.
  • The academics of the institute is quite easy-going. Students get accustomed to the easy-going academics and have a hard time adjusting to the corporate workload.
  • Some core subjects do not get enough focus. Excel Modeling is not a fixed credit course. Only basic techniques are covered in Research Methodology on SPSS. There is very little focus on Analytics and web-analytics. According to student reviews, there is no single umbrella subject for corporate finance. Interesting topics like Equity Valuation are not taught in detail. Subjects like Economics and Financial Markets are given as elective.

Placements:

  • Placements at SIBM are slightly better than SCMHRD, definitely better than NMIMS, and IMTs. The top graduates of SIBM share their workspace with IIM Grads.
  • However, the institute still does not receive super-premium companies and job roles, i.e. the Big 4 in consulting, front end roles in large I-Banks, big FMCG companies.
  • Placement usually takes place over a concentrated period of 4-5 days. During which ideally 80% of the batch gets placed. In reality, only 60% of the batch gets recruited in that time period. The rest of the batch receives job offers over the 3rd or 4th semester.

After looking at all the points one can say that SIBM Pune is definitely good in terms of Academics and placements.
