When it comes to choosing a business school, the competition is fierce and the options can be overwhelming. Three institutes that are considered to be among the top in the country are the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) at IIT Kharagpur, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi, and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).
If you are interested in an operations profile, then VGSOM is a great choice. It is considered to be one of the best institutes in the country for operations specialization, after NITIE. Additionally, the return on investment (ROI) is high. IIM Ranchi, on the other hand, may have a lower average package compared to the other two institutes, but it has the prestige of the IIM tag and a decent profile. The hostels are also fabulous, with single rooms available for students.
NMIMS is considered to be more costly and the batch strength is over 500 students. The top 150-200 students get superb packages and roles that are at par with other top B-schools, however, the next lot of students may have a lot of start-ups, etc. If you want to play safe, VGSOM or IIM Ranchi might be the best option.
However, if you are willing to take a risk, NMIMS might be a good choice as the profiles there are really good. It's ultimately up to you to decide which institute aligns best with your career goals and objectives. Rest assured, whichever institute you choose, you will be choosing a great institution as all three are among the top institutes in the country.
Among these colleges, IIFT Kolkata or MDI will be better for Finance. According to MDI Gurgaon placements 2022 record, BFSI, and E-Commerce sectors had placement rates of 22% and 13%. During 2021 placement drive, 55 students from MDI were placed in the Finance sector. The highest CTC offered in this sector was INR 21-23 LPA.
You can also consider IIFT Kolkata. It offers similar opportunities as IIFT Delhi, in the Finance sector. During IIFT Kolkata Summer placements 2021, the top recruiting sector was BFSI.
MDI Gurgaon is better than IIM Ranchi. In terms of placements and alumni base, there are significant differences between these two institutes. MDI is an older B-School with a well-developed alumni network. The brand name of MDI is widely reputed in the industry.
It has a stellar placement record. Around 87 recruiters took part in MDI Gurgaon placements in 2022. The median CTC offered this year was INR 23.50 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 1.14 CPA. Google, Adobe, HCL, and Microsoft were the major recruiters that took part in the placement drive.
There has been a lot of talk and misconceptions about whether the PGDHRM is as good as XLRI TISS or any other 'HR institute'. The PGDHRM stands out due to its unique curriculum and ideology. It is recognized that HR is not just about soft skills, and the course has been designed to be futuristic and not obsolete like some peer institutes.
While the campus infrastructure may need some improvement, the hostels at the National Games Complex are reportedly very nice. Ultimately, it is students' actions and what they learn that define them, not the physical campus or facilities.
To compare two business schools objectively, it is important to consider more than just the numbers in placement reports. In addition to looking at the average CTC, it is also helpful to consider the median salary to get a better understanding of the context. It is possible that the average CTC may be significantly influenced by international offers or a small percentage of the batch securing high-paying jobs. When comparing the maximum and average packages offered, it is important to keep in mind that institutes often include international offers in these calculations.
In addition to the number of roles offered, it is important to consider the quality of the recruiters and brands. It may be helpful to look at the LinkedIn profiles of alumni to get a better understanding of the roles and companies that have been recruited from the school. It is also important to note that the same companies may be listed in the placement reports of different schools, but that does not necessarily mean that the roles and packages offered are the same.
Finally, it is important to remember that a business school education is about more than just placements, and what a student makes of their MBA experience is also important.
IIM Ranchi, which was ranked 15th in the NIRF Rankings 2022 among top MBA colleges in India, is a high Return on Investment business school. In placement 2022, IIM Ranchi recorded a 10% hike in the average salary for the MBA 2020-2022 batch, which has increased to Rs. 16.17 LPA. Despite a fee increase for the 2022-2024 batch, the 2-year program fees at IIM Ranchi remain moderate at Rs. 17.20 lakhs, compared to fees of 20 to 25 lakhs at other IIMs and top business schools.
