Which is better, NIT Allahabad or IIIT Allahabad?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : October 16th, 2023

MNNIT and IIIT Allahabad are both well reputed engineering colleges.

Here are certain differences between the two-

  • Curriculum- IIIT Allahabad offers limited engineering branches, and is mainly focused on Information Technology. MNNIT also offers other branches like Mechanical, EE, Civil, etc. apart from CS and IT.
  • Faculty- Both have experienced faculty members who possess great knowledge. But IIITA has a greater number of Phd. holders in its faculty, and it is more research oriented.
  • Research- IIITA has a research oriented environment. Its faculty members and students engage in research projects in areas like machine learning, data science and cybersecurity. NIT Allahabad also has a good research culture, but it is more focused on applied research.
  • Placements- Both offer excellent placements. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and Google visit their campuses for recruitment purposes. IIITA records a slightly higher median salary during its placements.
  • Campus Life- MNNIT offers a larger campus, a more diverse student community, and a variety of extracurriculars. IIIT Allahabad has a smaller campus, and its main focus is on academics and research.

Both the colleges are equally good. Choose between them based on your branch preferences, research interests, career goals and college life expectations.

Which should should I choose to pursue computer science: DTU, NSIT, IIIT Delhi, IIIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahbad, and NITs except Trichy, Warangal, or Suratkal?

Lives in Bangalore

We need to consider a number of factors before choosing one college from DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahabad, and NITs.

  • Quality of education: In terms of academics, IIIT Delhi serves the best. The teachers are genuinely interested in teaching and encouraging students to research work. In DTU and NSUT students are expected to cope with the curriculum on their own.
  • Campus life: DTU offers the best resources and campus life to its students followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi
  • Peer group: You will find the best peer group that is passionate about CS at IIIT Delhi and NSUT.
  • Placements: This aspect is quite arguable because there is the general scenario as well as the statistics to consider. Generally, DTU fares better than NSUT and IIIT Delhi but if you look at the statistics, IIIT Delhi is the best among these colleges followed by NSUT and DTU.
  • Brand Name and Alumni: In this aspect, DTU is the clear winner.
  • Research Culture : IIIT Delhi has more faculty that are inclined towards research. The overall ambiance is conducive to cutting-edge research and students have to do research as a part of the curriculum. IIIT Delhi is followed by NSUT and DTU.
  • Higher Studies: IIIT Delhi has a CGPA system while NSUT and DTU have a percentage system. A CGPA of 8.75-9 is considered pretty good while even a percentage of 79% is not. So IIIT Delhi students face a certain advantage during shortlisting. Additionally, their research work and skills add to their overall profile and increase their chances of admission to top universities.

Overall, the best option for you is IIIT Delhi considering the above aspects.

What are the dual degrees courses like at IIIT-Allahabad?

DV
Devdoot Varma Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2022)

IIIT began its dual degree programs in 2013 which looked like B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree in I.T with specialization in Robotics and Software Engineering. Forwarding to the next year, an addition was made to these courses, and a couple of more programs were added.

For your convenience I am listing a few of them in detail so that you can get an idea of the structure:

  • B.Tech (IT) - MTech (IT) with specializations in:
    • Software Engineering
    • Human-Computer Interaction
    • Intelligent Systems
    • Bioinformatics
  • B.Tech (ECE) - MTech (ECE) with specialization in Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering
  • B.Tech (IT) - MBA (IT)
  • B.Tech (ECE) - MBA (IT)

After completing the 5-year dual-degree program, you will be awarded the B.Tech. + M.Tech./MBA degree. you will find that the first 6 semesters are the same as the B.Tech. (IT)/B.Tech. (ECE) program and the rest have elements of a PG program.

If you go for a lateral entry into the PG (M.Tech. (IT)/ M.Tech. (ECE)/MBA) program then you will get elective courses in the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th semesters. You may be allowed to change your specialization after the 1st semester, considering your academic performance.

Other such programs include Microelectronics, Biomedical Engineering, MBA in IT, and others. There are good internship and placement opportunities available if you choose the 5-year program. You will work on two small projects, 2 major projects and will have TO submit an M.Tech thesis. In addition to these, in your 3rd year, you can either take up industrial training or a research project under a professor at IIIT A or any other University of your choice. In your fourth year, you will be allowed to sit for placements.

Which one should I choose - ECE in NIT, Durgapur or IIIT, Allahabad?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : October 16th, 2023

I completed my B.Tech ECE from NIT Durgapur a few years back. Thus, I can tell you about the ECE department of my college-

The placements for ECE are quite poor. Barely any core companies visit the campus for recruitments. As a result, ECE students try for IT companies during the placement season. The curriculum is also not up to the mark. It needs to be updated and aligned with present day needs of the semiconductor industry. Scoring good CGPAs is easy but one has to stay updated on the industry standards on our own.

IIIT Allahabad has a research oriented environment, and its attendance policy is quite lenient. It offers good placements in the IT department. Try to approach some seniors from IIITA to find out the condition of its ECE branch.

If the B.Tech ECE at IIIT Allahabad is as good as its B.Tech IT, consider joining this college over NIT Durgapur.

What are the common misconceptions about students of IIIT - Allahabad?

SM
Souvick Mitra Posted On : April 5th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2018)

There are several misconceptions about the students of IIIT Allahabad in society. One major belief in being at IIIT Allahabad is that anyone who is a good coder is sure to get placed in some good company, which is not entirely true. There are several other factors that affect the placement of students, and some of them are listed below.

  • The hard work you put in during the vacation between the 6th and 7th semesters creates a lot of difference. It is the major preparation time just at the beginning of placements.
  • Luck also plays a major role during interviews. Confidence is an important aspect that is very essential while facing the interview panel.
  • You need to have good communication skills to ace your interview.
  • The number of interviews that the interviewer has taken before your turn creates a difference too.
  • Obviously, the mood of the interviewer is entirely a luck factor and can ruin even a well-prepared interview.
  • The placement team plays a key role during the placement. If you have any friend in the placement committee that can help you.

So, just being a good coder does not necessarily mean that you will get good placement offers. Prepare well and the rest depends on luck. Also, don't forget to enjoy your college life since you will not get these days back.

How do you book a visitor hostel at IIIT Allahabad?

RM
Ritwick Majhi Posted On : April 5th, 2021
Studied BSc Computer Science

Booking a visitor hostel at IIIT Allahabad is simple.

You are only required to send an email to the Deputy Registrar (Finance and Accounts) and put Caretaker Visitor Hostels to CC

The mail should follow the standard format for any official mail and should include your personal details.

However, if you are a prospective student and are likely to take admission for any year, then stating relevant details about the same will be good too. It can entail anything from your JEE roll number to any other particular ID you are expected to submit. Besides, also state your need for accommodation during the period of your admission process.

If you do not receive a response, you can ring any relevant person up using the telephone directory of the institute.

Which is better IIIT Allahabad or MNNIT Allahabad?

AS
Aditya Singh Posted On : April 30th, 2021
B.Tech at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad

One of my friends was in the same situation at the time of his counseling. He had this doubt and I am sure many of the people would have it too. I will note down the pros and cons of these two colleges so you can take an unambiguous decision.

IIIT Allahabad:

Pros:

  • IIIT Allahabad has a huge campus and it’s beautiful over there. In terms of campus, IIIT Allahabad is definitely better than MNNIT Allahabad.
  • IIIT Allahabad is known for its coding culture.
  • You will not be taught anything unnecessary like teaching engineering drawing to a CS student.

Cons:

  • The faculty base is not that great. Sometimes even seniors take the classes.
  • The timetable along with the assignments becomes very hectic at times.
  • It is also a new institute.

MNNIT:

Pros:

  • MNNIT is a very old college and has a rich alumni base.
  • The placements are amazing if you are persistent with your hard work and studies.
  • The faculties are good apart from a few.

Cons:

  • The campus is small as compared to IIIT Allahabad also; the sports facilities are also just not that good.
  • If you are looking for a good coding culture then it's here too but far less than IIIT Allahabad.
  • You will need to study some subjects no matter which branch you belong to in the first year.

The table below gives a brief overview of the two institutes.

Parameters

IIIT Allahabad

MNNIT Allahabad

Median Salary

12.93 LPA

8 LPA

Top Recruiters

Wal-Mart labs, Amazon, Direct-I, Qualcomm, etc.

Alstom, Bajaj Auto, Hero Motocorp, Tata Power etc.

NIRF Rank

103

93

So this pretty much sums up these colleges. The final decision is yours, compare and choose wisely.

What happend on your first day at IIIT Allahabad?

SS
Somya Srivastav Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Studied at IIT Delhi

My brother attended IIT Allahabad. His first day was normal and hectic with all the admission procedures and formalities. But his first-class experience was quite amusing. Here is how it went.

One or two days after admission, he is taking the campus tour with our parents. While entering CC - 3 (Computer Center -3), my father casually asked the guard, ‘Where are the classrooms for freshers?’ To this question, the guard replied the classes have started from that day only from 10 A.M.

It was around 10:25 A.M by then and my brother had no idea or any notebook with him. My parents kind of pushed him to attend his first class anyway. He was already 30 mins late. He took a quick peek at the class and according to him, the professor looked lenient. So, he took a chance and tried to sneak in quietly. Nonetheless, the professor saw him and asked, ‘Are you 30 mins late for this class or 30 mins too early for the next one?’ In response, the whole class burst out in laughter.

Later he got to know the said professor was the HOD of the Mathematics department. Needless to say, it was quite a start for my brother.
