Should I take mechanical engineering in PEC, Punjab engineering college or Thapar University?

DR
Debrupa Roy Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

One of my friends had the same options a few years back and chose Mechanical at PEC. Here are the reasons why.

  • The batch size of Thapar is huge. There are almost 500 seats in the Computer Branch.
  • The closing cutoff is lower for Thapar University.
  • Chandigarh will offer more exposure in comparison to Patiala. You will have more opportunities to prepare for higher studies like M.Tech or MBA.
  • PEC is quite reputed among students. It is even considered better than some NITs.
  • PEC has a better placement record as compared to Thapar.

Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes.

Parameters Thapar University PEC
No of companies participated 264 145
Top recruiters Microsoft, IBM, Wipro Microsoft, RBS, Goldman Sachs
Highest package offered INR 43 LPA INR 42 LPA
Average package offered INR 8 LPA INR 10 LPA

Hope this helps you in making the decision.

What is the procedure to get a transcript from Thapar University?

YS
Yashraj Sule Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied Computer Science at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2011)

You will have to write an application to the deputy registrar of Academics. Alternatively, you can also send an email to Deputy Registrar with your application.

As far as transcripts are concerned, you need to send the complete address of the universities for which you are applying. Along with this, send two sets of your mark sheet photocopies and degree certificate.

These sets should be authorized by the college and the other set should be duly notarized by a legal or commissioner of oaths or self.

Lastly, your transcripts will only be sent once the administration receives the photocopies of your mark sheets and degree certificates. Overall, it is a pretty simple process. Your work should get done smoothly.

What are the class timings at Thapar University?

AG
Aniket Ghose Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Bachelor of Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

One of my friends from school attends Thapar University. Here is his insight regarding the class timing at the institute.

  • Since you are from the first year this is vaguely how your week will be academic. The total hours in the first semester per week is nearly 27 hours.
  • Your Mondays will be normal, most likely to end at 3 noon and begin at 8 in the morning.
  • Your Tuesdays will be short. You will most probably have classes from morning 8 to noon 1.
  • Your Wednesdays will be busy with classes from 8 in the morning to 5 in the evening.
  • On Thursdays, you will have classes from 9 in the morning to 4-5 in the evening. Your
  • Fridays will be short. Most likely to end before noon 1.
  • Between all this, you will have an hour lunchtime which will be either from 12 to 1 or 1 to 2. Saturdays and Sundays are off. Most of the common tests especially Maths are conducted on Saturdays.

Try to enjoy the first semester as it is one of the least credit semesters. Manage your time properly. You will be given a week off before Mid Terms and the end semester to study.

Do attend labs as they are easy and you will get free attendance. Try to maintain a good relationship with TAs. If they are on your side, you are most likely to score well.

CSE (with AI & ML) in Manipal University Jaipur or Mechatronics / Mechanical in Thapar University? Which to choose?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Honestly speaking, both Thapar University and Manipal University are reputable institutions for a B.Tech in computer science. So the decision on which one is better for you ultimately depends on your personal preferences and priorities. is

Thapar University is a highly esteemed, private engineering and technology university located in Patiala, India. Known for its strong academic programs and rich research culture in computer science, this university has it all. Additionally, it offers a range of student services, including career counseling and internships.

Manipal University, on the other hand, is a private university located in Manipal, India. It is one of the oldest and most established universities in the country and is known for its iRobot programs in CSE. The university has a number of student-driven bodies that promote extracurricular activities.

Some factors to consider while choosing between the two include

  • Proximity to hometown
  • campus life
  • Fees and other expenses
  • CSE Program offered

Both the colleges are almost similar in all aspects. So what actually matters is that if you live in the North, choose Thapar but if you are from the south choose Manipal. Both universities have the same fee and both are equally reputed private colleges after BITS. So I would suggest that whichever college is near your hometown go for it.

Ultimately, both universities are highly esteemed institutions and either one would be a decent choice for a B.Tech in computer science.

What should I choose, DTU engineering physics or Thapar University CS?

SP
Samira Puri Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

Having known some people studying in both these institutions, I can say that if you plan to get a job offer, go for CS at Thapar University. If not and are interested in doing research opt for Engineering Physics at DTU.

  • Engineering Physics is a field which does not anymore provide a promising opportunity to its aspirants.
  • If you go with this choice of branch you might get research opportunities after higher studies.
  • Moreover, if you have prioritized DTU, keep in mind that the quality of education and academic career is reducing with every passing year.
  • Few of the many branches at DTU are striving to keep their esteemed position with engineering physics not being one of them.
  • Instead, CS at Thapar University would be an excellent option for building a path for your career.
  • This branch is known for its exceptional academics and for the opportunities held out to the students.
  • Although it is a batch of almost 570 students in CS you can certainly end up with a 5LPA and above package by the end of your 4th year.
Categories CS at Thapar University
Course Fee 13.23 lakh
Highest CTC 22 LPA
Average CTC 8 LPA

There are many reputed companies that take part in their placement program and recruit CS graduates. These include Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Capgemini, Oracle, IBM, ZS Associates, Morgan Stanley and many more.

Is IIIT Kota good or better than LNMIIT and Thapar?

NM
Niladri Malakar Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, The LNM Institute of Information Technology (2019)

I know a few things about LNMIIT since I have few friends there. It is a public-private non-profitable college, located in Rajasthan. From what I heard from my friends, I will not recommend choosing this institute.

  • The main problem of this institute is the administration. There have been many misconducts by the management, in recent years.
  • Scoring marks in college is very hard as the teachers usually give D and F grades to their students which makes their GPA < 6 and hence making it difficult for them to sit in the placements.
  • There is nothing like supplementary exams which is common practice in IITs and NITs.

If you want to build upon your career, don’t choose LNMIIT. Mostly, half of the batch fails in the exams.

Finally, life is tough at LNMIIT, so don’t go for it. Look for other options.

Is there a uniform for BE students in Thapar University?

RS
Ritu Singh Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Some of my friends studied at Thapar University. According to them there's definitely no uniforms in Thapar University.

  • However, the first year students who have a 'khaki dress' will have to wear it for workshops.
  • This is compulsory not only for BE but the rest of the branches as well.
  • As an omnipresent rule for science programs, you'll have to wear a white coat/lab coat for some M.Sc. projects or practicals.
  • No need to worry about it being a daily state of affairs.
  • At times you'll have to show unity with a uniform as well, such as to affirm your stand for cultures through the Saturnalia and for technical stuff through Aranya.
  • These fests include modelling shows and you might want to join in and showcase your skills.

A uniform might be needed for these. Sometimes a faculty member might ask you to be in formals, they do expect that, but no restrictions as such.
