I have a friend who studies in the ECE branch at NIT Warangal. I will break down his overall experience into simpler aspects

Academics: The curriculum and academic life at NIT Warangal for ECE students is a bit more challenging than others. Some semesters have too many courses and it’s difficult to get free time. The grades are given a lot of importance and students face tough competition. Also, the faculty is not very approachable.

  • Campus life: The campus life of students of all branches is similar. Equal opportunities and facilities are offered and students experience a productive ambiance where they can work on their passions.
  • Hostels : The hostel facilities are top-notch and both old and new hostels are available. Students get a home-like feel in these cozy buildings and make friends for life.
  • Mess food: Mess food is better than food served in intermediate hostels. However, students can opt for eating out if the food in the mess is unsatisfactory. The eateries outside serve decent food at low prices.
  • Sports : The sports culture here is not very prominent and you won’t be forced to be involved in any such activities.
  • Extracurricular : A number of clubs promote extracurriculars with ECEA being the most active association.
  • Peer group: Your batchmates will be the most hardworking and smartest people in the institute so peer group quality should be the last thing to worry about.
  • Placements : Both core and non-core placement opportunities are offered to ECE students. Here are the detailed stats for the same

All the aforementioned institutes are well known for their IT programs. However, in terms of course structure and academic ambiance, one should give preference to IIIT Allahabad over MNNIT and NITK. This is because the institute mainly focuses on CS education and its curriculum is also CS tailored. However, in terms of placements, IIIT Allahabad and MNNIT are almost at the same level followed by NIT Surathkal.

Here is a brief overview of these colleges.

What are the interns offered at NIT Surathkal? What are the chances for them to convert into a full-time job?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 15th, 2023

These are the various companies that hire CSE/IT students as interns from NIT Surathkal and the stipend they provide per month-

Sprinklr: 2 Lakhs, Uber: 1.6 Lakhs, D E Shaw: 1.5 Lakhs, J P Morgan: 1 Lakh, Google: 1 Lakh, Arcesium: 1 Lakh, Goldman Sachs: 1 Lakh, Morgan Stanley: 80k, Microsoft: 80k, Walmart Labs: 80k, Credit Suisse: 80k, Cisco: 70k, Intuit: 60k to 1 Lakh, Samsung: 50k to 70k, Oracle: 50k, Flipkart: 50k, Myntra: 50k, Nvidia: 50k, SAP Labs: 45k, Amazon: 45k, Qualcomm: 40k, Adobe: 40k. Companies visit with internship offers in a random order. But those that offer 1 Lakh+ per month, visit the campus within the first two days of internship drive.

PPOs vary according to the brand. Companies like JP Morgan, CISCO and Morgan Stanley pay a good stipend, but their base salary goes to around 12 LPA.

Flipkart on the other hand, offers comparatively low stipend but their base salary is around 16 LPA. The chances of getting a PPO are circumstantial. Companies like Uber, Sprinklr and D E Shaw are very selective in offering PPOs. Google conducts a few interviews before offering PPOs to its interns. Completing your tasks on time, and maintaining a good rapport with your manager somewhat ensures that you get a PPO at your company.

I have mentioned the internship details for the CSE/IT branch. You can consult a few seniors to know the details for other branches.

Which should I opt for between NIT Surathkal IT and IIT Roorkee chemical?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 15th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

You must choose between the two based on your future plans and personal preference-

  • Interest- If you are interested in programming, choose NIT Surathkal IT without second thought.
  • Campus Life- Both the colleges have a great campus life. But NIT Surathkal is better in this regard. NITK is located near Bangalore, and B.Tech IT is a great choice for this location.
  • Recognition and Prestige- IIT Roorkee enjoys greater prestige and recognition. It is the dream college of JEE aspirants.
  • Future Prospects- For higher studies or research, you should choose IIT Roorkee. You can also expect a branch change at IIT Roorkee, but don’t completely depend upon it. This is because a branch change will be quite difficult, and things may not work out in your favor. You can also study coding alongside your Chemical Engineering degree. If you do so, you can land a good IT job during campus placements.

NIT Surathkal offers good placements in the IT sector. It is a fact that the IT industry is prospering tremendously in India at present.

You can choose your branch/college on the basis of this information. I would have personally chosen NIT Surathkal IT because of the location and career prospects.

What is the best branch in NIT Surathkal?

SG
Seetal Garg Posted On : March 31st, 2022
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

If we only consider placements, then CSE is the best branch in NIT Surathkal. This branch has a great placement record. NIT Surathkal CSE average package stays around INR 15-16 LPA.

If you want to join Govt sectors, Mechanical, Civil or Electrical are comparably better. You need to prepare for IES, for these jobs. Chemical Engineering is a good option if you want to join PSUs. In private sector, Chemical Engineering has limited scope.

Which one is better for MTech programmes in ECE, NIT Surathkal or IIT Guwahati?

PS
Pratik Sharma Posted On : March 20th, 2023
B tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

IIT Guwahati is one of the top engineering institutions in India and has a well-established ECE program with a strong focus on research. The institution has state-of-the-art facilities and offers many opportunities for collaboration and networking with other leading institutions in India and around the world.

Both NIT Surathkal and IIT Guwahati are excellent choices for pursuing an MTech program in ECE. You should consider your personal preferences, career goals, and research interests when making a decision between the two. It's also recommended to visit the campuses, speak to current students and alumni, and explore the curriculum and research opportunities to make an informed decision.

However, when considering the choice between IIT Guwahati and NIT Surathkal for MTech programs in ECE, it is important to note that while both institutions offer excellent programs, the brand and reputation of IITs are highly valued by companies. Therefore, the tag of IIT may carry more weight in the eyes of potential employers.

Which one should I choose for M.Tech: NIT, Trichy, NIT, Warangal, NIT, Suratkal, NIT, Allahabad or Delhi College of Engineering in thermal/design?

Namrata Das Posted On : September 6th, 2023

All NITs are well-reputed institutes that ensure quality education in India. Let us look into the features of NITs in detail.

Daily Life – All the NITs follow the same system, and there is no significant difference between them. The classes begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., with a one-hour break in the afternoon. Like other colleges, regular classes are conducted five days a week, and on the weekends, students can take part in extracurricular activities. They also provide decent hostel facilities for the students

Ragging – It is strictly prohibited in all the NITs. Instead, there are state-wise groups of students that give students a chance to interact with the seniors.

Food – NIT Trichy is more into south Indian dishes, while other NITs have both south Indian and North Indian food.

Faculty and Placement – NITs have well-qualified scholars and guarantee 100% placement to the students, irrespective of the branches.

So, you can select any of the NITs based on your preference

How good is the MCA course at NIT, Surathkal?

SG
Shikha Ghosal Posted On : September 14th, 2023
Studied BTech in Computer Science, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

The MCA program at NIT Surathkal is decent but I feel NIT Allahabad will offer a better course and opportunity. This is because, at MNIT Allahabad, most companies allow MCA students to sit for placements with CSE and IT students. One of my distant cousins pursuing an MCA from MNNIT Allahabad cleared Google Mt.View. Moreover, CSE, IT, and MCA share a common department here and the computer Club classes are also held for all CSE, IT, and MCA combined.

Whereas In NIT Surathkal, the MCA program is inclined more toward Application Development and thereby focuses more on the latest programming language and tools to develop better and faster applications. Its primary aim is to provide a modern, industry-oriented education in applied computer science.

In my opinion, you should choose MNNIT Allahabad for MCA as it has better placement opportunities.

Is an ENI in BITS Goa good, and is it better than NIT Surathkal's EEE?

KA
Kriti Anand Posted On : August 20th, 2021
B.E. EEE from BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2019)

ENI stands for Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering while EEE is Electrical & Electronics Engineering. Having known some people studying at both these institutions, I can say that BITS Goa is better than NIT Surathkal.

  • In terms of infrastructure, BITS Goa is obviously better than NIT Surathkal.
  • Better companies visit BITS Goa campus than NIT Surathkal.
  • The course curriculum and the quality of academic projects are also better at BITS Goa.
  • The faculty at BITS Goa is also top-notch.
  • In between the two branches, both are almost the same barring a few subjects (3 subjects to be precise).
  • The course load, placements, and projects all are similar between the two.
  • As these are core branches, getting placed in the core companies is going to be difficult at either of the institutes.
Categories ENI at BITS Goa EEE at NIT Surathkal
Course Fee 19.19 lakh 5.40 lakh
Highest CTC 25 LPA 30 LPA
Average CTC 12-13 LPA 15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Arcesium, Goldman Sachs, nVidia, Texas Instruments, etc. Qualcomm, L&T, Microsoft, Samsung, etc.

Finally, I would say that ENI at BITS Goa is very good and actually might be a little better than EEE at NIT Surathkal.

Can a non-CS student in NIT Surathkal sit for CSE placement?

DB
Ditsha Banerjee Posted On : September 15th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

There are no specific placements for CSE as it's just one of the many branches of engineering. Most companies like Oracle and Fidelity allow students of all branches to sit for placements while some big companies like Microsoft only allow B.Tech CSE ECE EEE, and M.Tech CSE students who have qualified for the CGPA cutoff 7. Every company has its own CGPA criteria and to stay on the safe side and be eligible for the maximum companies try to score 7+. So if you fulfill the criteria, you can apply for any company irrespective of the branch you are from. For shortlisting, CS companies conduct online coding tests after which you are selected for the interview. So no matter which branch you belong to, you have to be proficient in coding.

In short, if you want to get selected for CSE placement,

  • Maintain a CGPA of more than 8, every semester
  • Actively participate in competitive programming right from the first year.
  • Learn and practice from sites like Geeksforgeeks, and Techdelight.
  • Be proficient in topics like C++, Data structures, and Algorithms to bag offers in big companies.
  • Practice from coding Platforms like CodeChef, and Leetcode.

Basically, the more you become proficient in Competitive Programming, the better offers you will get!
