The current Dean student Welfare of BIT Mesra is Mr. Bimal Kumar Mishra. Is he well suited for this position?

AV

Studied at BIT Mesra (2019)

According to the students at BIT Mesra, it is not just one issue but many that need to be brought into the limelight. They consider him a headache.

  • Hostel No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 have a lot of stray dogs in and around the building. They are literally everywhere which is a problem.
  • The hostel walls are painted with cheap paint that every time you come in contact with the wall your shirt gets the paint.
  • You are charged Rs.5000 fine every time you do something outside the college guidelines.
  • These petty guidelines might include ordering food, using electrical appliances, wearing sneakers, etc.
  • The administration does not treat you well even if you represent your college at the national level.
  • Forget about some financial aid, you might lose your mid-semester marks instead.
  • No one will ever listen to why you were late for the registration.
  • You will have to pay a fine and this time it is not Rs. 5000 but it can be any amount. There is bargaining for this that goes on in the office with the students.

There are many other things that they charge a fine for. The worst thing is nobody knows where all the money collected through the fine goes. Imagine how much they collect in these ways. Instead of all these, they should focus on improving the lab facilities and intake of better professors.

I am pretty sure that these problems will never be resolved in BIT Mesra. You will always find alumni praising this college.

Is BIT Mesra a good architecture college?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : April 16th, 2021
Studies Architecture at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2022)

My friend did his B. Arch from BIT Mesra, so I can give you a brief idea about the course.

Architecture depends on your vision, on your projection, and how you see the world. Therefore, college views could differ. Architecture is not like maths which would be the same throughout the world, it is designing and depends on how you can plan your thoughts.

Some of the striking features of BIT-Mesra (Architecture) are as follows.

  • BIT-Mesra has a state-of-art course structure. This may not sound important but most of the top universities look at the course structure for Masters.
  • BIT-Mesra has great faculty. Most of them get an offer from the most prestigious colleges around the world.
  • B.I.T. gives a strong software and structural base to students. They are successful in making you think economically too, very important in a country like India.
  • There is a good balance between contemporary architecture and traditional architecture.
  • Alumni Network: The Alumni network at BIT-Mesra is strong as well as global. In college, electives like Architectural Journalism, Photography, Conservation, and Urban Planning are good to have and though, they are only a few among so many, it gives you an idea of different fields you can aim for from B.Arch.
  • Placements or Job-Scenarios: On-campus training and placements isn't a very happening scene in BIT-M, though there are amazing placement stats among other departments. But things are different for architecture and they have an effective system builtin in the course structure including internships in the final semester. This also happened because students generally have internships finalized (through personal emails) much before the Career Fair starts.
  • Co-curricular: Being a nationally recognized school, great co-curricular activities are happening in the college regularly. These co-curricular lead to the personal growth of an individual and architecture comes out as the winner in many activities and competitions. Great workshops are organized throughout the year at the institute.

Going by the above factors, it is safe to say that BIT Mesra is a good option for pursuing a degree in Architecture.

How good is production engineering at BIT Mesra?

PS
Prithvi Shah Posted On : February 16th, 2021
Production Engineering, studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.

The Production Engineering department at the Mesra campus, boasts of excellent facilities. A friend of mine recommended BIT Mesra as it is one of the best departments to opt for in BIT Mesra due to the following reasons:

  • The infrastructure here is great and boasts of well-equipped workshops and labs for forging, foundry, carpentry, welding, fitting, etc with all sorts of machinery.
  • Most of the faculties here are very knowledgeable and will be helpful during your course. They make sure the subjects are understandable and interesting. Some of the topics are obsolete in today's world and you’ll need to update yourself as per current trends. The department organises Seminars and conferences regularly to keep students in trend with the industry.
  • The workload is decently comparable when compared to other streams. So, if you can put some effort you can easily shine in the academics’ part.
  • Placement wise although this department is not excellent you can try to be in the top 15 students in the batch so that you can grab good opportunities. Some of the top organizations such as Hero Moto Corp, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, NBC Bearings, Vedanta, AVTEC LTD, etc visit the campus for roles related to production engineering.
  • Apart from the placement opportunities, many students opt to pursue higher education too. Some of the seniors are pursuing their higher education from top institutes like IIM’s etc.
  • To grab better opportunities, it is good to brush some basics related to Mechanical engineering such as SOM, Thermodynamics, I.C Engines, etc. As some of the Mechanical companies allow the students from production engineering for their recruitment process too.

Here is some information about the institute:

Highest Package

49.76 LPA

Average Package

11.76 LPA

Fees

11. 57 Lakhs INR

No. of seats

15

NIRF Ranking

38 (For engineering)

So, if you are interested in production engineering and willing to put in some effort to be on the top you can definitely opt for Production Engineering in BIT Mesra.

BIT Mesra CS or RVCE CS?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 9th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My sister is in her 3rd year of engineering at CSE RVCE. Earlier, she was going for BIT Mesra considering its better ranking and reputation over RVCE. But a friend asked her to reconsider her decision because

  • RVCE CS placements are much better and with enough coding skills and a good CGPA, you can easily secure a 20+ LPA package.
  • Bangalore as a city offers a plethora of opportunities and options, especially the young enthusiasts.
  • The institute has an active start-up culture and many students become entrepreneurs after a few years m.
  • The BIT tag is slowly losing its credibility and worth as the quality of education is deteriorating day by day
  • Bangalore's location offers more learning opportunities than Ranchi
  • The crowd here is very diverse so you get to experience a diverse culture and a new way of living that helps in personality grooming.
  • RVCE has a management quota too so you will be surrounded by both talented as well as average students.

Overall, I feel RVCE will offer better opportunities because of its excellent location in contrast to Ranchi.

What are the best student organizations or clubs to join at BIT Mesra? Why should students join them?

UP
Utsav Patranabish Posted On : August 16th, 2023
BE, BIT Mesra

There are numerous clubs and student organizations at BIT Mesra. However, refrain from joining a club/organization just after club induction. First, find out the actual contribution of these clubs. Also, join the club that corresponds with your personal interest(s). Join a maximum of two clubs so that you can contribute well to them and attain a senior position by the time you reach your 3rd or final year.

As far as naming a few, I would mention just one organization at BIT Mesra that I feel everyone must be a part of. That organization is- Dristi. Here is how you can contribute to it as its member-

  • Field Work-
  1. Teach kids in nearby villages.
  2. Organize events in colleges and villages.
  3. Hold video/ one on one sessions to spread awareness among the villagers on health, education, government schemes, and scholarships.
  4. Coach village girls and organize football matches.
  5. Dristi advocates for gender equality. To contribute towards the same, it organizes various programs for women's empowerment.
  • Support/ Strategy-
  1. Share new ideas with the team.
  2. Work in media and advertising.
  3. Contact other organizations that can help and support Dristi in various ways.

Thus, I would strongly recommend you join Dristi while at BIT Mesra, especially if you are interested in social entrepreneurship.

How are placements for EEE at BIT Mesra, and does the big electrical MNC visit the campus?

UP
Utsav Patranabish Posted On : August 16th, 2023
BE, BIT Mesra

The placements for EEE at BIT Mesra differ according to the year. However, they are not as good as they were a decade ago. Since the advent of GATE for the recruitment process of PSUs, they have stopped recruiting students from the campus.

A wide range of companies allows BIT Mesra EEE students to sit for the placement process-

  1. Coders are offered packages from Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Direct-I, etc.
  2. Freescale offers jobs to those who are good at core electronics.
  3. TATA Steel, Maruti, Mahindra, L&T, Trident, Mitsubishi, Orient, etc. offer positions to those who are good at core electrical.
  4. EXl, Mu-sigma, Stellium, etc. recruit students with good analytical skills.

Unless you are passionate about coding, as a EEE student, it is unlikely for you to be good at it, that is too good enough to beat a CSE/IT candidate. Also, EEE at BIT Mesra is negligent towards electronics. Therefore, in reality, only the last two categories are left for EEE students.

Thus, as a EEE student at BIT Mesra, you can get placed in the core electrical companies or companies like EXE, Stellium, etc. But if you wish to go for core electronics or coding, you will have to strengthen your knowledge and skills in these domains, all by yourself. The above-mentioned companies are the big MNCs that visit the campus with core electrical profiles.
