The University of Chandigarh and Punjab Engineering College are equally good. It finally depends on you and what you are passionate about, as chemical engineering has a broader curriculum than IE.
Students opting for Chemical Engineering can specialize in the fields of Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Polymer Science & Technology, Energy Management, Biochemical Engineering, Separation Processes, Reaction Engineering, Pulp and paper, and Environmental Engineering.
Industrial Engineering is somewhat similar to Mechanical Engineering but not quite. Students will get to learn about manufacturing processes, manufacturing systems, systems engineering, IT, Networks, basic shop floor communications, and much more.
In the following table, you will get basic information about the colleges -

But the Production and Industrial Engineering Branch of Punjab Engineering College is better. It also gives lots of opportunities to students both in education and placement. Also, even if you go for chemical engineering, you will for IE.
Therefore, choosing Production and Industrial Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh is a better option than Chemical Engineering of Chandigarh University, as it has more opportunities.
If you are a student of Chemical Engineering looking for a program that will help you hone your problem-solving skills in complex, multidisciplinary situations, the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) may be a good choice for you. During your course, the emphasis will be on fostering your ability to tackle difficult problems from a variety of angles.
If you are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in Economics, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Bhopal may be a good fit. In addition to the BS Economics program, you can also choose to minor in other subjects to broaden your knowledge base.
It's important to note that while IIPE Vizag is a new institute, established in 2016, IISER Bhopal has been around since 2008, making it a more established institution. That being said, it's important to consider a range of factors when choosing a program.
If you're interested in Mechanical Engineering, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design, and Manufacturing (IIITDM) may be a good option. With a strong faculty and excellent labs, it's a great place to gain knowledge and skills in manufacturing.
When it comes to facilities for Mechanical Engineering programs, the following order can be roughly followed based on available information:
Of course, this is just a general indicator since we are comparing three different streams. Ultimately, the best program for you will depend on your individual interests and goals.
Chemical Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology used to be one of the best courses at the institute. But with years the condition of this branch has gotten worse. The old faculty members have retired. The current faculty base is not that great.
I have a few friends from the institute and according to them, if you are keen on exploring the field of chemistry then Haldia would not be one of your best choice institutes. But the placements here are decent. In the 2020 placements, the highest and average CTC offered was 3.5 LPA and 24 LPA.
My friend is an alumnus of IET Lucknow and according to him, with a rank of 5915, it will be hard to get Chemical Engineering. In his year, only a few general category students received Chemical in the fifth round with a general rank greater than 6k.
However, because the scenario changes every year, there is no certainty that you will get it. Also, given HBTI's split from UPSEE, getting into IET with this rank appears to be extremely difficult. It's all a matter of luck.
According to the cutoff trends in recent years, the required cutoff for the Chemical branch is 2856 for General Category.
One of my brothers was placed in a prominent company through on-campus placement. As per his experience, CGPA isn’t required for the process of getting a good job.
He scored 9 CGPA and many of his friends scored less than him yet they were successfully placed in prominent companies. The reason behind this is that marks hardly matters when recruiters visit campus moreover, they are all focused on your knowledge and skills.
Getting a good placement is definitely a dream for all the engineers but you definitely have to brush up on your skills and knowledge before sitting for the recruitment process.
If you are interested in coding and aim to work in good corporate firms, then it is suggested that you go for CSE at NIT Calicut. But if you want an IIT tag, you can opt for IIT BHU. But this won't matter much afterward.
So, if you are focused on doing research then Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU will be a good option. You can also learn coding on the sidelines, which might be beneficial if you sit for placements.
Parametres | CSE at NIT Calicut | Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU |
Tuition Fee | INR 16,000 | INR 6.7 LPA |
Placement Percentage | 73.5% | 71% |
Average Package | INR 11.57 LPA | INR 16.27 LPA |
The choice of studying in a college pursuing a particular subject is entirely up to you. Check where your strengths and weaknesses lie and then choose accordingly. Both institutes are good in their own way. But it is your hard work and dedication that will prove if CSE or Chemical will be good for you.
The fee for NIT is very less as compared to BITS Hyderabad/Goa. BITS Increases its course fees by 15% every year.
However, in BITS Hyderabad/Goa, you can apply for a loan and easily avail it. Around 20 to 30 percent of the students apply for it.
If your net family income is less than 8 lakhs per annum then you are eligible for the merit-based scholarship based on the CGPA at BITS Goa. You can apply for the merit scholarship even if your family’s net income is more than 8 lakhs per annum based on the CGPA. Financial support is given to deserving candidates on the BITS campus.
If you are considering pursuing higher education in engineering, the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU) is a great option. It has a proven track record of providing excellent placements to its students. In fact, about 85% of students were successfully placed in their desired roles in the last placement season.
One of the highlights of IIT BHU's placement record is the impressive salary packages that students receive. For instance, the highest package offered to a chemical engineering student was 56 LPA (Lakhs Per Annum), which is a remarkable feat. The average package for students in this field was also quite high at 15 LPA. These numbers speak to the quality of education and training that students receive at IIT BHU, which prepares them well for the demands of the industry.
Apart from securing jobs in their desired fields, a significant number of students also received on-campus internships in various domains like quant analyst, consultant, supply chain management, research and development, and many more. This is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience, network with industry professionals, and enhance their skill sets.
Several reputed companies regularly visit the IIT BHU campus to hire talented individuals. Some of these include Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), ITC, Procter & Gamble (P&G), Goldman Sachs, J P Morgan, and many more. These companies are known to offer exciting career opportunities with attractive compensation packages, making IIT BHU an excellent choice for students looking to build a successful career in engineering.
In summary, if you are considering pursuing engineering education in India, IIT BHU is a top-tier institute with an impressive placement record. With excellent academic programs, practical training opportunities, and a vast network of industry connections, it provides students with the resources they need to achieve their career goals.
