While applying to the US for an MS, are NITs (Surathkal, Trichy, Warangal) considered the same level as the new IITs?

AP

No, NITs are definitely not considered of the same level as the new IITs while applying to the US for an MS. But, the fact that IITs are the best brand in India and the second-best brand are NITs, is well known to the admission committees of most of the institutions.

  • Every year, students from the top three NITs make it to top universities in the US.
  • With the increase in this trend, NIT Trichy, Surathkal and Warangal are known to many institutions in the US.
  • Besides, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the top NITs and many international institutions also are of great help to the students.
  • Top universities like Stanford, MIT, CMU, etc., commonly witness students from NIT Surathkal.

Therefore, making it to top-notch universities is certainly possible; all that you need is good grades, a good GRE score, good SOP, and a few publications.

How is the coding culture in NIT Trichy?

DP
Dinesh Panda Posted On : September 10th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2017)

One of my friends studied at NIT Trichy. According to him, their coding culture is really good and consistent. Here are some things I got to know about while discussing:

  • The best description of the coding culture of NIT Trichy is given by the Intranet app that can be accessible by all the NITians.
  • Then next comes the Spider R & D club. Through this club, you can share your knowledge on a common platform and form a community that can allow them to pursue various courses, blog hosting, and many other features.
  • The Delta Force is another club of developers and programmers who face new challenges every day that gives them a steep learning experience.
  • Many of the developers work on various real-time projects that are part of the department fests which gives them hands-on experience.
  • Also, there is a Robotics and machine intelligence group that is full of budding enthusiasts. They indulge themselves in various real-time projects to gain knowledge and experience.

Last but not least we can say that the coding culture of NIT Trichy is extremely vast that can help students to develop their skills along with the various experiences.

What would be my chances of getting NIT Trichy computer science if my total in the JEE Mains 2021 is 212?

SR
Satyaki Roy Posted On : September 15th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering ,National Institute of Technology,Rourkela (2020)

NIT Trichy is considered one of the best NITs, especially for computer science. The cutoff for the CSE branch at NIT Trichy closes around 634 for OS General and 4358 for HS General, according to 2020 trends. Considering your marks the expected rank will be around 3500. As per previous years, admission stats and cutoff getting CSE with 212 marks will be difficult.

It also depends on factors like whether you are eligible for the home state advantage or not. Students also get an advantage based on their caste as a certain percentage of seats are kept reserved for them. If you belong to the SC, ST, or OBC category quota then you may get computer science. To be on the safer side a score of 280+ is sufficient to get computer science in NIT Trichy.

With 212 marks you will definitely get a chance in CSE at comparatively newer NITs such as Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Patna etc.

Which should I choose: IIT Madras for metallurgy over NIT Trichy for computer science and engineering?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : March 29th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you're trying to decide what to study at university, it can be overwhelming. You should consider CSE at NIT Trichy, instead of going to IIT Madras for metallurgy. Here are some reasons why you should choose computer science engineering:

  • Don't choose a branch just for the sake of a tag: You may feel pressure to choose a certain branch of study because of the prestige associated with it, but this can be a mistake. Instead, consider your long-term career goals and what will be most beneficial to you in achieving them.
  • Don't risk your career for a tag: Going for a branch just because it's considered prestigious, even if it's not the best fit for you, can be a big risk. Your career is important and you should choose something that will set you up for success in the future.
  • Topping the class doesn't guarantee certainty: If you're certain you want to change your branch and you're confident you'll be able to top your class at IIT Madras, you may be considering metallurgical engineering. However, there's always a risk that you won't be able to achieve that top spot. If that happens, you'll be stuck with a degree that may not be as useful for your career goals.

North Indians aren’t treated any differently in NIT Trichy. Students at the institute are friendly. You will get to meet many like-minded people on campus. Try to interact with everyone and not only people from North India.

The localities such as hostel gatekeepers, and shop owners are supportive. They understand that you are from a different region and may have trouble communicating.

What is the cutoff for an MCA in NIT Trichy through the NIMCET?

RG
Ridhhi Sen Gupta Posted On : August 30th, 2021
Studies MCA in NIT Trichy (2021)

The required cutoff partially depends upon the difficulty level of the NIMCET paper since it varies from one year to another.

However, for the previous two years, NITK was the conductor of the NIMCET exam and was actually announcing the ranks based on the scores predetermined by the authorities. For further securing admission at NIT Trichy, you are required to score around 800 or above if only the paper is comparatively easy and you belong from the general category.

In case the paper is somewhat moderate in its difficulty level, then achieving 700 and above can help you secure admission to NIT Trichy. But, if it is undeniably difficult, then 500+ is supposed to be quite enough for securing a seat at NIT Trichy.

Should I take up metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : March 15th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

If you are considering pursuing an MBA, it is advisable to not opt for engineering as it may not be relevant to achieving your goals. Instead, studying economics could prove to be beneficial.

If you are looking for a specific course at NIT Trichy, it is recommended taking up Production Engineering. This is considered to be the best course for someone with managerial ambitions.

Now, you may be skeptical about someone suggesting a particular stream of engineering for an MBA. However, here are some of the suggestions:

  • The curriculum at NIT Trichy covers Operations Management in great depth. By the time you graduate, your knowledge in operations would be on par with that of a first-year management student.
  • You also learn the basics of economics with Industrial Economics.
  • Depending on your choice of electives, you can also gain knowledge in finance.

On a lighter note, the course is not very demanding, so you will have plenty of time to prepare for entrance exams or pursue other interests.
