What are the future prospects of MSc (Hons.) Chemistry from BITS Pilani?

DR
Deepshikha Roy Posted On : March 24th, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

If you have completed your MSc in Chemistry and are wondering about your career prospects, there are several things to consider.

Firstly, it is important to note that merely having an MSc degree does not guarantee a job. You need to have relevant skills, experience, and knowledge to land a job in the field of chemistry. Therefore, it is important to keep your expectations realistic.

One of the possible career paths after an MSc in Chemistry is to become a faculty member at a coaching institute in Kota. However, this may not be a viable option for everyone, and there may be other options available depending on your specific interests and skill sets.

If you are passionate about chemistry and want to further your education, you can consider pursuing a Ph.D. at a good college. A Ph.D. can provide you with specialized knowledge and expertise in a specific area of chemistry and can open up opportunities for a career in research or academia.

Some other career options for MSc Chemistry graduates include:

  • Chemical research and development: There are various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, food, and consumer goods, that require chemical research and development to create new products or improve existing ones. You can work as a research scientist in such industries or in research organizations.
  • Quality control and analysis: Chemical analysis is essential in industries such as manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. You can work as a quality control chemist or analytical chemist in such industries.
  • Environmental chemistry: There is a growing demand for professionals who can work towards sustainable development and environmental conservation. You can work in the field of environmental chemistry and help in developing new technologies to reduce pollution and manage waste.

In conclusion, while an MSc in Chemistry may not guarantee a job, there are various career options available depending on your interests and skill sets. It is important to explore different avenues and make an informed decision about your career path.

BITS Pilani offers a lot of extracurricular activities on the campus. It ranges from Sports, art, and music. There are multiple activities going on which give you a break from your loaded academics.

  • Being a student here, my brother has mentioned a few well-known fests of the campus: BOSM (Sports Fest), Oasis (Cultural Fest), and APOGEE (Technical Fest).
  • The campus has various clubs like Photography Club, Music Club, Poetry Club, Creative Activities Club, Dance Club, English, and Hindi Press Club, Drama Club, Coding Club, etc. Only a few are active.
  • There are Departments that handle fests and other activities from Sponsorship to Correspondence to decorating the campus.
  • You can always go to the Gym-grounds and Students Activities Center to play sports.
  • There are state-wise cultural associations. They organize cultural shows throughout the year which everyone enjoys attending.

Apart from the above-mentioned things, you can go to movies with your friends screened in the auditorium every 2-3 weeks.

I can assure you that the culture at BITS Pilani is very good and there are a lot of activities to involve yourself in.

Is it worth taking B Pharma in BITS Pilani?

ND
Nisha Dubey Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at Pune University (2019)

My brother used to be a student of BITS Pilani and from what he has heard; it is not a good institute for students who want to pursue pharmacy.

You should pursue pharmacy at BITS Pilani only if you have a strong background in physics, chemistry, and biology or you cannot get admission to some other institute.

Even if you do have a strong background in the three subjects, the chances of getting converted to a different stream are very low. You have to obtain a CGPA of or higher than 9.8. It is simply too high and getting a 257 just will not be enough.

On the other hand, BITS is a very reputed institute. It is highly praised by my friend and a lot of the students and former students as well. It is a very good institute but pharmacy is just not its forte. It would be better if you look for other institutes if you want to pursue pharmacy.

Should I opt for an M. Sc. Math course in BITS Pilani?

TS
Trina Saha Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

You are perhaps going for one of the most difficult streams of M.Sc, which is, of course, Maths. Few of my friends are studying there and as they have mentioned, by the time you reach your third year, one of the subjects in Maths would have a good number of theorems.

The next thing you would have is coordinate geometry as a part of your Maths 1. This would come in handy while solving double/triple integrations.

However, this is still the base of things. It gets complicated ahead- although, not sure if that would be in the third year essentially. Perhaps for better clarity, you should try and reach out to someone who is actually doing his/her M.Sc from BITS Pilani

  • Now, when it comes to application and coding Mathematics, the wisest combination to opt for is M.Sc Maths along with CS.
  • By the time you become a pro at coding, these math concepts wherein you studied geometry might come in handy for the applications that you would use.
  • Try and sustain a CGPA of 8+, if you are genuinely serious about carrying along with CS as a second subject option.

My friends mentioned that students who are carrying along two degrees at the same time have CS as their ultimate aim. There were a few friends of mine who with a double degree, either ended up slogging into semesters, achieved CS with hardly any effort, and eventually, some of them had to choose chemical/civil out of sheer compulsion.

Which one is better IIIT Bangalore Mtech CS or ME CS from BITS Pilani Campus?

AS
Anish Sinha Posted On : April 14th, 2022
Masters Data Science, International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (2018)

IIIT Bangalore is comparably better than BITS Pilani for an MTech CS. Placements for master's programs are better at IIIT B. Being located in Bangalore, the institute has a locational advantage. IIIT Bangalore MTech CSE placements 2021 witnessed the highest CTC of INR 45.6 LPA.

Since IIIT B doesn’t offer just  BTech, M.Tech students get equal opportunities for placements. This isn’t the case for BITS Pilani.

Should I take chemical at BITS Pilani or take a drop?

SM
Sayantani Mitra Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends studied Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani. According to him, it is a really tough stream. It is suggested not to drop a year instead ensure that you work very hard.

  • Spend over 12 hours self study every single day for a year.
  • You should be able to get under 1000 rank in JEE next year which might be worth taking a year drop.
  • But if you have secured a much higher BITSAT score, and if you think you won't be able to work this hard, then simply take whatever you are getting at Pilani.
  • Try to graduate with a CGPA of 8.5+ and go for an MS/Ph.D. in any area of your interest.

Herewith I'm providing the basic details for BITS Pilani :

PARAMETERS BITS PILANI
Tuition Fees INR 1.78 LPA
Placement Percentage 99%
Average Package INR 17 LPA

If you opt to drop and secure admission in an IIT, you will be getting only one degree after 4 years. Whereas, you can get 2 individual degrees from BITS after 5 years. There is not much of a difference between BITS and IITs. It is certainly better than the new ones. The top 5 or 6 IITs are better than BITS but letting go of one more year might not be a wise decision.

What is a list of things one must do at BITS Pilani during the first year?

PM
Pritha Mandal Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

One of my friends graduated from BITS Pilani and here are some things you could follow for your first year of college.

First of all, one must study well in their first year to maintain their CGPA. Keep your CGPA in check but do not let it consume you completely. Make sure you never let your score go beyond a 7.5 because no matter what, it is always an advantage to maintain a good CGPA. As this will help you sit in placement drives.

Apart from studies, here are some ideas for spending the first year of your college time at BITS Pilani –

  • You can visit at least 5 to 10 beaches if you are at BITS.
  • Enjoy and make better use of the college fests. Participate in them and be productive.
  • Make some good friends, otherwise, you might find it difficult to adjust to the environment.
  • Being active at clubs and departments of the college will be good and beneficial.
  • Cultivate your hobbies.

Finally, do whatever you dreamt of doing before joining the college. Balance studies and fun. It will be an unforgettable experience. You will cherish it forever.

Which is the best option, Mathematics, and Computing at IIT Guwahati, CSE at IIIT Hyderabad, or CSE at BITS Pilani?

SD
Shubhangi Dutt Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (2022)

CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is so far the best possible program one can aspire for in India in the software industry. It’s better than IIT-B CSE and hence, far better than BITS Pilani or IITG CSE.

IIIT Hyderabad

  • IIIT Hyderabad has initiated a dedicated software inclined course structure right from the first year. It is a course highly inclined towards academics.
  • The institute completely focuses on preparing software experts called CODERS.
  • It has highly active coding clubs, excellent coding culture, and the highest average package among the above-mentioned colleges.
  • However, it lacks a lot in the overall development due to the poor campus life. You have to leave your campus life behind if you are willing to be extremely academic.

BITS Pilani

  • It has a great course structure along with great campus life. You will be very happy with the coding culture over there.
  • The institute enjoys years of alumni outreach.
  • 0% attendance can sometimes put forward a very lenient attitude of your and might even affect the coming phases of your life.

IITG MnC

  • This branch offers a BTech degree and has a course with 45-50% Maths, 45% CS and some finance courses.
  • The campus life in IITG is definitely amazing and the weather is pleasant. However, the coding culture is lacking as compared to the other two.
  • The location and young alumni network is a major factor you should consider.

Considering all pointers mentioned above, it is clear that CSE at IIIT Hyderabad will be a best suited option for you.

When will BITS Pilani open after COVID-19?

MK
Muskaan Girish Kumar Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Executive at Department of Sponsorship and Marketing (2018-present)

BITS Pilani should open up in September. The country will probably not recover from the pandemic before this. With the number of vaccinations going around, it will take some time.

You can think about a little, there are about 10 lakhs JEE Main applicants. Of this, only 5000 are selected for IIT. Even if we consider the death rate of just 18 to 20 years old, it is about 0.05%. This is equivalent to the number of people selected by IIT.

Even if lives are lost that are equivalent to the IIT intake, nothing much could happen. In the end, the decision is to be taken by the Senate and the guidelines provided by UGC. If nothing materializes, the online classes will definitely continue and any changes will be informed by the authorities to students.

Does anyone get a good CGPA without attending many classes in BITS Pilani?

SG
Shilpi Guha Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

One of my friends graduated from BITS Pilani and he scored a good CGPA of 9.2 in his 4th year of CSE. Following points are a few facts about the institute that might help you:

  • If you want to get a good score make sure you study hard that will later reflect in your results.
  • However, attending classes does make the preparation procedure much easier. As you will be always updated with the topics that are being discussed.
  • During your 1st year attending regular classes will be easier. But gradually it will become tougher to balance your studies and attending classes.
  • You must not neglect attending classes completely, and if you do make sure you prepare through self-study.

For any junior, I would advise them on attending as many classes as possible. You can skip the humanities and open electives but not your core subjects. Make sure even if you miss out on the classes, you cover the syllabus through self-study.
