What is the salary range for an MTech graduate in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 18th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

The salary of an MTech graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay varies from branch to branch.

  • Mechanical Designers get more salary ranging from 5 to 12 lakh than others some even get around 20 LPA.
  • Thermal Engineering students get slightly lower packages than design students
  • Manufacturing Engineering students get salaries of around 4 Lakhs to 8 Lakhs

MTech students are usually hired by core companies that gain less profit than Software Companies and hence end up with lower packages than BTech students. Moreover, companies are aware that BTech students are all-rounders and thus prefer them to MTech students. However, the promotion of MTech students is faster than that of BTech students.

Which IIT should I choose: IIT Mumbai or IIT Ropar considering IIT Ropar has beaten IIT Mumbai in the top universities list but IIT Mumbai is much more famous than IIT Ropar?

GS
Gargi Sinha Posted On : April 20th, 2022
B.Tech, Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar

Given a chance between IIT Bombay and IIT Ropar, you should definitely go for the former. It is currently ranked higher than IIT Ropar. NIRF 2021 has ranked it 3 for B.Tech.

IIT Bombay is constantly ranked among the top engineering colleges in the nation. It is the favorite destination for almost all the JEE aspirants. IIT Bombay cutoff trends also indicate the same. You will need to score under 100 in JEE Advanced to get a seat at IIT Bombay.

How easy is it to take a branch change at iit bombay?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 17th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

If you're looking to change your branch at IIT Bombay, there are two main factors that will determine how easy or difficult it is for you:

  1. Other students who are also looking to change their branch - The demand for different branches at IITB is divided into three categories: high-level demand (Computer Science & Engineering and Electrical Engineering), mid-level demand (Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering), and low-level demand (all other branches).
  2. Your own priorities and aptitude - You'll need to decide how much time you want to dedicate to studying vs. extracurricular activities, and where you fit relative aptitude compared to other students.

Here's a breakdown of what these factors mean for you:

Role of the first factor:

  • Demand for different branches at IIT Bombay is based largely on which branch offers better job opportunities and salaries, so some branches are more competitive than others.
  • Depending on the level of demand for your desired branch, it may be harder or easier to get a COB.

Role of the second factor:

  • Depending on how much time you want to dedicate to studying vs. extracurricular activities, and where you fit relative aptitude, you may find it easier or harder to get a COB.
  • Specifically, you can think of yourself as falling into one of the following categories:
  • Most of the time dedicated to studying and least to the extracurrics (MSLE)
  • Equal amount of dedication and time to both studies and extracurrics (ESE)
  • Least time given to studies and most to the extracurrics (LSME)
  • Students with above average aptitude (AAA)
  • Students with average aptitude (AA)
  • Students with below-average aptitude (BAA)

Overall, getting a COB at IIT Bombay will depend on a combination of these factors, so it's important to be realistic about your chances and make sure you're prepared to put in the effort needed to succeed.

Is the electrical engineering department the best in IIT Bombay?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : March 21st, 2023

I haven’t heard of many people who actually join Electrical Engineering because they want to genuinely pursue Electrical. Rather most students take Electrical because their JEE Rank did not allow them admission to any other branch. In fact, some even take Electrical Engineering and opt for minors that match with their areas of interest.

When it comes to interdisciplinary subjects, IIT Bombay provides the perfect chance to do so. What usually happens is that students are unaware of their area of interest while choosing their branch during admission. As a result they end up taking disciplines that match their ranks rather than interests.

However, if you are clear about your choice of branch, don’t hesitate and go for it without thinking much of your rank. Although difficult, you can always change your branch if you later regret choosing that specific branch.

I always suggest aspirants only choose the branch on the basis of their preferences and not the placements. Even if you land a good job, you will never be satisfied if you are working in an area that does not intrigue or excite you.

How did you get an internship offer from IIT Bombay?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Before securing an internship, you need to analyze some points that will make the process easier. Work on these and then embark on your journey to work as an intern.

  • Why should I do an internship?
  • What internship should I do?
  • Where to search for an Internship and how to proceed?
  • What are the prerequisites? What should I have? A good SOP? A good CV?
  • What is a good Statement of Purpose and How to make it? How to make a good resume?
  • When should I start to search for an Internship for Institute and Well-known Companies?

Only once you are clear with these points, should you proceed to look for an internship.

Now, IIT Bombay has 2 main ways to offer internships to its students.

  1. Ekalavya Internship Program **EKALAVYA HOME Page (EKALAVYA HOME Page)
  2. By mailing to the professor of your field of interest.

Ekalavya Internship Program:

Suitability: This is most suitable for those who are completing the 3rd year only. However, it may also be suitable for 2nd-year students with exceptionally good academic performance.

Procedure:

  1. Apply for the internship.
  2. If you get selected for the first round., you will have to wait for the second round
  3. The second round is an Online Test. Take help from seniors during preparing for this round.
  4. You get selected finally once you clear their second round.

Write an email to the professor

This may sound like an ineffective technique to get an internship when in reality it’s the most under-rated, under-used tool for grabbing an internship abroad. But one must keep in mind that this method is not definitely easy as it depends on a number of factors. I have mentioned some tips that will help you get a clear picture of how to get an internship by writing an email to your professor.

  • Don't lose hope after one or two emails go rejected
  • Don't contact two professors in the same department
  • Be specific about the area you want to intern in
  • Start your internship hunting early
  • Target the right country

I hope my answer helped get a good idea on how to get an internship offer at IIT Bombay.

Why do so many people take Computer Science from IIT Bombay?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

If I have to be honest, I think pursuing Computer Science at IIT Bombay is just a sheep mentality-driven dream pursued by a majority of Indians. Not many who take CS are genuinely interested and passionate about it, rather they opt for it because most genius minds consider it the best option.

The media comes to play as it advertises the highly inflated packages offered to CS students at IIT Bombay. The aspirant gets attracted to such glittering figures and flocks to IIT Bombay in the pretext to land similar packages. The media and society mold aspirants to believe that money is everything in one’s career and should always be the priority. As a result, students tend to opt for CS and don’t even consider other Engineering branches for fear of getting packages lower than those offered to CS students.

One can easily conclude that most engineering aspirants are unaware of their inclinations and thus become victims of sheep mentality. I have seen many students who join Computer Science and later realize that it’s not their forte.

How many of you choose IIT Delhi over IIT Bombay?

AP
Amit Patel Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Studied at IIT Delhi

Rather than giving you a definite answer, let’s compare IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay on the basis of a few common aspects:

  • Academics: Academic-wise both institutes give an equal edge to each other. Both are recognized well globally and have great research cultures.
  • Rankings: QS World University Rankings (2023) rank IIT Delhi at 174 while IIT Bombay at 172. Moreover, IIT Bombay bagged the 40th position in the QS ranking followed by IIT Delhi which secured rank 46.
  • Branches: Some departments of IITD(Electrical) are better than IITB and vice versa(Chemical).
  • Campus: IIT Bombay (550 acres) has a larger and more beautiful campus than IIT Delhi (326 acres).
  • Location: Bombay offers a wider range of opportunities and job prospects because it is a metropolitan.

So the only reason one chooses IIT Delhi over IIT Bombay can be because he is interested in a course that is better in IIT Delhi than IIT Bombay. Another reason for choosing one over the other might be the proximity to one’s hometown.

Why do people prefer IIT Bombay over IIT Madras?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) (Graduated in 2020)

If you are considering which IIT to attend, you might want to know why people choose IIT Bombay over IIT Madras. While my reasons may not be the same as everyone's, here are some common ones:

  • Geographical stereotypes: Many people from North Indian states tend to have a negative bias towards IIT Madras, while people from South Indian states often have a similar bias towards IIT Delhi. However, IIT Bombay's neutral demographic attracts people from both North and South India.
  • Reinforcement bias: IIT Bombay has seen an influx of toppers in recent years, creating a herd effect among students with relatively lower ranks and future candidates.
  • Cool quotient: Due to its location in Mumbai and the portrayal of a cool aura associated with it in popular culture, IIT Bombay has become a popular destination for people who seek a change after years of hard work to get in.

Apart from that, random rankings or even MHRD rankings have little effect on student perception. Placement statistics also play a minor role in the decision-making process since every IIT has similar placement records (although IITK has slightly better placements than IITB).

Can a dropper get into CSE IIT Bombay?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 20th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

I have seen a dropper get into CSE IIT Bombay. You can get into CSE either by staying among the top 50 or by branch change. While being among the top 50 may seem difficult, the reality is it indeed is achievable. I am going to narrate a real incident that will help you understand better.

There was an aspiring engineer Divyansh Srivastava who got into BITS Pilani on the first attempt with an Integrated MSc course. He wasn’t satisfied and decided to sit for JEE again. This time his rank was 904 and could have easily taken CSE at Pilani but instead, he chose to take risks and was able to get into IIT Bombay Chemical. Still, he wasn’t satisfied and decided to take one last risk and miraculously got CSE, IIT Bombay.

The main moral from this incident is that once you believe in yourself you can almost achieve anything.
