Are the new IIM's good enough to compete with the older ones? Are they better than XLRI or FMS?

AB

The new IIMs still have a long way to go and it will take several years for them to reach the level of top B-Schools like XLRI and FMS. It would take them a long way to reach there. It’s only after joining a B-School, that you realize a B-School is as good as its alumni. Top B-Schools have a large alumni base occupying executive positions in top MNCs. This in turn improves the brand value of these institutes.

Additionally, there are several companies that visit only the top 4-6 B-schools for summer and finals. Once you conduct in-depth research you will realize how many CHROs & CEOs are from XL and FMS. New IIMs would have to struggle hard to reach that level. Companies have a fixed pattern for recruitment for summers and finals. They stick to the same pattern and thus visit the same institutes every year. This is exactly why companies go through the immense struggle of visiting a remotely located institute like XLRI because they are sure of its worth and credibility.

Does FMS Delhi have any hostel facilities?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : June 4th, 2023
Studied at FMS

Hostel allocation is handled by the University of Delhi, not FMS. There is only one significant dorm, VKRV Rao Hostel, where 30 seats are set aside annually for FMS and the remaining 30 for DSE.

For first-year FMS guys, there are 30 spots. The CAT score is used to determine the allocation. However, 15 spots are set out for international, ST, and SC students. For OBC, there is no reserve.

The D.S. Kothari Hostel, Jubilee Hall, and P.G. Men's Hostel are three further hostels that each have one to four beds available. Forms must be obtained from each hostel and filed before the deadline, which is often June 30 or thereabouts, in order to apply for the hostels.

What are the pros and cons of not having a hostel at FMS Delhi?

HB

The following are the benefits and drawbacks of not having a hostel at FMS, Delhi:

Pros:

  • When Freshers set out to arrange their own housing for the next two years, it was a completely new experience for them.
  • Helps to act as a bonding activity for the students of the new batch even before the start of the session.
  • Allows students to live according to their preferences for the next two years.
  • As a result, the two years are more relaxed than at other top B-Schools in the country because no unexpected classes can be scheduled after a certain time of day, unlike at other fully residential B-Schools.

Cons:

  • Students are put under additional pressure before the start of the session to arrange for their own lodging.
  • It raises the overall cost of the course for the next two years. Despite the fact that it is a two-year course for the rest of the world. Other than tuition, there are numerous other expenses, and the lack of a college hostel significantly increases them.
  • Less rigor than other fully residential B-SCHOOLS. Few IIMs even hold classes at 11 p.m. And it is viewed positively by corporations as rigor. However, this is not possible at FMS.

Thus, despite its pros and cons, it is a completely different experience that students should endure during their two wonderful years at FMS.

What's FMS Delhi?

SJ
Sidhharth Jain Posted On : May 26th, 2023
Studied at FMS

FMS Delhi is one of the best Management schools in India that offer three MBA programs. Please find the below table for detailed information:

Program

FEE

Highest Salary

Median Salary

Median Stipend

MBA full-time

INR 200000

1.23 Cr

31 LPA

3 LPA

FMS offers the best ROI and is situated at a great place in Delhi; you get a chance to interact with people from other DU colleges. The admission process is quite simple. FMS considers CAT scores for its MBA programs, and the cutoffs are usually around 99.5 percentile. Shortlisted students go through the GDPI process, where their profile is evaluated on the basis of their overall performance in the GDPI, their past academic scores, and their CAT score.

What are the pros and cons of doing an MBA from FMS Delhi University?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studied at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi

There's no point in going over the usual benefits like placements, good professors, university infrastructure and fees, and so on. However, it is critical to consider some genuine and neutral arguments in favor of IIMs (at least in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta).

  • When making decisions, many B-school aspirants mention ROI. The wealth maximization theory provides the NPV method, which is superior to the rate of return theory. Your future cash flows are indeed influenced by your B-school, and the difference is usually large enough to outweigh the outflow in year zero.
  • An important question to ask yourself is, "Are you doing an MBA to save money or to add value?" If the latter is your answer, you should be prepared to pay a reasonable price for it.
  • There's a reason people like the IIM label. It still carries some clout in the market. In terms of B-school brand value, an IIM has a faster growth rate. As a result, there is a chance that FMS will lose to IIM IKS in the next 10-15 years.
  • Having a subsidized university education comes with its own set of costs. Placements are completely student-led. There is no credit system, which makes student exchange difficult. For FMS, the semester system is the norm, which has its own drawbacks.

Shall I leave my job as a deputy manager in SBI with 4 years of experience and CTC higher than 12 LPA for FMS Delhi?

PR
Prashanth Rondi Posted On : December 30th, 2022

Well, firstly you should change your perspective before making a decision. I don’t think your CTC should let you decide whether you want to pursue MBA or not. Change your focus from CTC to long-term goals and I bet you won’t regret this decision.

Getting an MBA degree from FMS is a privilege in itself. Moreover, you can relive your college life without regrets this time. The top-notch B School will open amazing opportunities and let you gain experiences that you won’t regret ever. But you have to prepare yourself to face classrooms, books, exams, and tight deadlines.

So you should leave your job and go for FMS only if

  • You are passionate about your goals and not only high packages
  • You are ready to face college life once again

Don’t adopt the sheep mentality and pursue MBA just for high packages. Rather try to learn something from it that will help you in the long run.

How do I get a package of 30 lakhs in the field of marketing, post MBA from IIMA/B/C, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT?

SS
Saransh Shah Posted On : March 6th, 2023
MBA Finance, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (2020)

While many may shed their philosophies on how getting a high package should not be your ultimate goal and stuff, I am here with a different opinion. When you are investing a huge amount of money it is only right to expect a greater monetary benefit and a better lifestyle. So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT.

  • The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints.
  • You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA.
  • But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection.
  • Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job.
  • If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting.

These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.

Do any FMS Delhi students who had got converted at any of the IIMs prior to joining there have any regrets regarding their choice?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : January 8th, 2023
MBA in Operations Management & Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2018)

Many students leave IIMs for FMS Delhi and do not look back. There are some things that are really unique in FMS. You have a well-established market in "Kamla nagar" to conduct market research. Despite its small size, the campus provides numerous opportunities to expand your cross-domain knowledge.

You are a student at Delhi University. You must manage everything, from finding a flat to organizing the laundry. It significantly contributes to the development of your overall personality. FMS has helped me become much more grounded. The faculty at the college are among the best in the country.

How was your first day at FMS Delhi?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 8th, 2023
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2021)

Here is the experience of one of the students of FMS Delhi on her first day at college.

The first day at FMS was June 21st, so the day was dedicated to the celebration of Yoga Day. As a result, she decided to attend the session. The guest yoga trainers' yoga lectures and sessions were fantastic. It was entirely devoted to all aspects of learning. They emphasized the importance of staying healthy, correcting our daily routines, and so on, which is essential in today's fast-paced world. The Dean's and faculty's addresses made her feel as if she was in the right place to learn.

Some people have a bad habit of dismissing their education by comparing it to the packages and salaries they receive. She doesn't want to fall for that. She was willing to try new things and wasn't concerned about her pay. Her first day at FMS reinforced this belief even further. She had the impression that it is a place where big dreams come true. She hoped that this light would give her the strength to overcome all of her flaws and empower her to make the best decisions for her future.

Why is FMS Delhi lesser known compared to the IIMs and XLRI?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : January 9th, 2023
CAT 2016: 96.05

Everyone looks at IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta through CAT and XLRI through XAT. The IIMs have mastered the art of marketing through alumni networks, events, and branding. As a result, they are able to attract the best faculty, students, and recruiters. The respectable cycle will be broken if they fail in one aspect.

FMS is under the supervision of DU. It has a set budget, a limited number of seats, and consistent recruiters. The cycle is well established; there is no need to change the current situation.

IIMs and XLRI are the only institutions that hold separate exams and require entrance exams. Many advertisements for these entrances can be found in newspapers, blogs, and magazines. FMS, on the other hand, avoids such activities. FMS offers similar opportunities in terms of exposure, placements, knowledge, a strong alumni base, and so on.
