Is IIIT Hyderabad really best in MS or M.Tech in CSE?
It's difficult to say if IIIT Hyderabad MTech or MS CSE is the best or not as it's a matter of personal preference. What might be best for you, may not be for someone else. So first, you have to identify your interests and goals. Usually, IIIT Hyderabad is suitable for
- People who want to pursue high-level research in CS
- People who are determined to pursue a career in CS and want to polish their CS skills and fundamentals
- People who are just after the IIIT and CS tag
Every institute has something or the other to offer so comparing them isn't right. Instead, look at the bigger picture and understand what you are looking for in your degree and which institute will serve you best.

What were the questions that were asked in the IIT Delhi M.Tech interview for Computer Science and Engineering?
My friend recently gave his interview for the MTech program at IIT Delhi and he told me that only 2 questions were asked him.
- What is a tree? - To this, my friend gave a general answer that did not satisfy them, after which they asked him to state an additional property of the tree. Right after this, they tricked him by asking him to prove the 2nd property based on the first. Although he tried, he was unable to give the final solution.
- Next, they chose a number between 0 to infinity and asked him to guess their number exactly using the minimum number of queries. My friend could answer this one better than the first one although the panelists weren’t completely satisfied with this one too.
His interview lasted the longest although he was asked only 2 questions. Some conclusions drawn from his experience and tips to follow to prepare for the same are
- Study the proofs from Discrete Math and Data Structure and Algorithms.
- Be well-versed with all major definitions and prepare some good examples to support your definition.
- Explain the questions asked in detail and not in short

If IIIT Bangalore MTech in CS/IT is that good, why it has so low GATE cutoff?
IIIT Bangalore does not offer any UF program and this translates to poor reputation. The majority of the student community and major recruiters are unaware of the college's existence. However, it offers a unique integrated course which is one of its kind graduate courses.
The uniqueness lies in the fact that the M.Tech course offered by IIIT Bangalore is majorly industry oriented in contrast to the research-focused curricula in other top institutions. This is also the reason why many major IT companies visit the college for campus placements and students get placed better than most of the IITs. It’s likely to become better in the future with its increasing demand and reputation and will stand at par with IITs.
So grab the seat while you can!
If I have offer from both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Trichy for MTech CSE which will be a good option to choose?
If you have offers from all the mentioned institutes, then firstly I would like to congratulate you for achieving such a feat. Many students fail to get offers from any one of these institutes, and here you are sitting at the top of your game. Congratulations!
When it comes to choosing the best option among these three, I would suggest that you choose NIT Trichy. The reputation of NIT Trichy as one of the best NITs is by far one of the driving forces of students choosing this institution. The CSE department of NIT Trichy has a curriculum that has been developed to meet the industry needs of the students. You will get to learn multiple programming languages as well as be able to use them on multiple projects. You will be encouraged to develop new software. There are instances where students become entrepreneurs on the campus and pitch their projects and software to investors.
What should be my strategy for getting admission in IIT Bombay for an MTech in the CSE branch?
One of my friends made it into IISc with a rank of 10. I enquired about the strategy he adopted to score such high marks. He told me about his 3 milestone theories and the things he achieved on the way. The final outcome is 75 marks in GATE which will help you get CSE in IIT Bombay.
1st Milestone: The first and foremost goal you should set is to achieve 25 marks in GATE. This can be done by working on some basic mathematics, aptitude, and core subjects. This can be done from
the college itself. Try to secure 25 marks in the final year on the first attempt and once you are done move to the second milestone.
2nd milestone: You have to achieve another 25 marks to make it 50. I suggest not taking a gap to prepare for this. This can be done over the 2 years after your graduation during which you can take up an IT job and increase your work experience. This will be useful during placements at IIT Bombay.
To achieve this milestone, read some more core mathematics, and cover 3–4 core subjects previous 25 marks revision. If you are able to secure 50 marks over the next couple of attempts, you don’t have to worry much as you can get admission in any IIT.
3rd milestone: If you want those additional 25 marks take help from some professionals and seniors.
My friend got a 10 rank after working on this strategy and he is working at Microsoft today.
After passing out from IET Lucknow as a B.Tech graduate, if I manage to get into IIT Bombay as an M.Tech in CSE, then what salary can I expect after passing out?
Getting into IIT Bombay for your M.Tech CSE will open new doors for you. IIT Bombay has maintained an excellent placement record over the years. Even for the year 2023, the CSE branch of IIT Bombay, after phases 1 and 2 of placements, has recorded INR 1.02 CPA as the highest CTC. The highest CTC for the CSE branch was offered by QuadEye in the sector of SDE And R&D.

Thus, getting an M.Tech in CSE at IIT Bombay after doing your B.Tech from IET Lucknow will allow you very good placement opportunities.
What rank in GATE is required to get into IIIT Delhi for an MTech in CSE?
IIIT Delhi considers both your GATE rank and UG percentage for admissions into M.Tech. You can apply through two categories- GATE and Non GATE.
For shortlisting GATE candidates, GATE rank and UG percentage are considered. 2500 GATE rank and 75% UG score is enough to get shortlisted for M.Tech CSE. This is followed by an interview.
Non-GATE candidates are shortlisted based on their UG percentage. Around 75% is enough to be shortlisted for M.Tech CSE. Once shortlisted, you’ll have to give a written test followed by an interview. Non-GATE qualifiers don’t get a stipend during their M.Tech.
IIIT Delhi frequently changes its selection criteria. Earlier Codechef's long score was considered during selections, but not now. College toppers and ICPC participants have better selection chances than the others.
Which is a better option: IIIT Hyderabad (M.Tech CSE) or BITS Pilani (M.E Software Systems)? Why?
In my opinion, M.Tech in CSE from IIIT Hyderabad is way better than the M.E. Software System from BITS Pilani. Honestly, both the colleges are good so my comparison is only on the basis of the courses. Consider the following points of comparison
- ME in the Software System curriculum mostly comprises software engineering or IT subjects and has little connection with the actual CSE curriculum. Whereas, if you take CSE, you can opt for the subjects of your choice from the second year and can take subjects directly related to CSE.
- BITS Pilani has a better brand value and enjoys more global recognition than IIIT Hyderabad thereby making it easy to pursue Ph.D. from a foreign university.
- M.E. in Software Systems limits the scope of a Ph.D. with a good research area in CSE.
In the end, I will say both IIIT Hyderabad and BITS are excellent institutes for CSE education and offer equally good placements. So priority should be given to the course and not the college!
Is IIT Delhi good for an MTech in CSE?
IIT Delhi is a premier engineering college offering top-notch education and placements to its students. Moreover, its CSE department is highly coveted by Engineering aspirants and is on par with the CSE department of IIT Bombay. Anyone who has to choose between CSE in IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay should consider much more than just academics and placements. IIT Bombay organizes the best tech fest and cultural fest all over India while IIT has a unique location of being in the center of the country and near Haur Khas, the hub of clubs and lounges.
Some points related to IIT Delhi MTech CSE placements are
- The highest package this year was recorded at around INR 4 CPA while the median salary stood at INR 15 LPA.
- 80% of the batch was placed with major recruiters such as ACCENTURE, Barclays Bank, Capgemini, Deloitte, Flipkart, GAIL(Gas AuthorityOf India Ltd), Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Securities, Morgan Chase
- IIT Delhi CS students are offered the highest packages with some even ranging in crores from US giants like Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter.
- Many students after doing a corporate job for 1-2 years, aim for higher studies
- MTech and MS students belonging to the CS departments are getting more attention from big companies.
- Job offers to MTech CS students are made from a variety of companies like international technology majors, exciting startups, and financial giants as well as public sector majors.
Overall, the placements for IIT Delhi MTech in CSE are decent and one need not worry much.
