Should I opt for CSE in IIT Gandhinagar?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 2nd, 2023

IIT Gandhinagar started its B.Tech CSE in 2016. Even though the program is relatively new, it is a great choice. The CSE department started way back, in the year 2009. The Ph.D. program in CSE has been running for a long time and plenty of research work is taking place in this field. You will receive all the required research facilities and necessary guidance from the institution. Minors in CSE has always been quite popular among the IIT Gandhinagar B.Tech students.

IIT Gandhinagar sees excellent placements in coding profiles. For 2023 placements, the B.Tech CSE branch recorded 94.4% placement, with a median salary of INR 25.06 LPA and an average salary of INR 29.29 LPA.

I strongly recommend IIT Gandhinagar for your B.Tech CSE and would suggest you make the best use of the opportunities that this institution offers.

Which college is better, IIT BHU or IIT Gandhinagar?

YD
Yash Dasgupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech BioEngineering Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (2021)

IIT BHU and IIT Gandhinagar both are decent IITs. IIT Gandhinagar has a better NIRF ranking as compared to IIT BHU. Although IIT BHU has a lot of Engineering courses to offer, the overall infrastructure and environment are not as conducive as IIT Gandhinagar. Also, the recent year’s cutoffs are comparably higher for IIT Gandhinagar.

Furthermore, IIT Gandhinagar has a unique and distinctive “Foundation Program” which helps students get acquainted with academic life and college environment. Besides, the faculty of IIT GN is also among the best. On the contrary, there is a shortage of faculty members in many branches (including Civil Engineering) at IIT BHU.

The campus location of IIT Gandhinagar is also comparably better as compared to IIT BHU. It is pertinent to note that the campus of IIT BHU is merged with BHU, which makes the campus a crowded place for students. Also, the placement scenario in both the colleges is almost at the same level.

Although IIT BHU being much older than IIT Gandhinagar, offers a huge alumni base. IIT GN might be considered a new IIT by many, but the progress that it has shown is humongous. It also provides a conducive environment for research scholars and has an overhauled infrastructure (including labs). Both colleges have their pros and cons, so it is hard to choose one institute over the other.

How difficult is it to get a cgpa of 9+ in IIT GANDHINAGAR in the first year?

AG
Arvind Goswami Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2018)

Getting a 9+ CGPA anywhere is not an easy job. You need to be constant in terms of study and securing 9+ CGPA overall requires a high CGPA in all the subjects.

Credit System:

For IIT Gandhinagar, there is a credit system where the first semester consists of 22 credits with 4 courses of 4 credits and 2 are of 3 credits. Coming to the second semester, it has a total of 24 credits where 5 subjects have 4 credits and 2 subjects have 2 credits in all.

Useful Tips:

Now to get all the credits and achieve a high CGPA, the 10 points that are A grade is not easy to attain as they are given to fewer students whereas there are more students in the race of 9 points. As the subjects in the first year are the same, the classes will have around 150 students.

To attain a high grade in IIT Gandhinagar your CGPA should not be lower than 9. To achieve this you need to prove yourself in every subject as well as keep a track of the grades in the regular study pattern and continuous assessment.

Awards:

To keep you motivated, IIT Gandhinagar includes felicitation of the top performers by the dean and distribution of several other medals for both academic and non-academic domains. One of the domains of getting a medal is exemplary human qualities. So, there is always a reward for the good deeds.

The director in a five-week foundation program also guides students on how to achieve high grades. For the ones who are unable to attain good grades, the institute helps them find their own talents and interests.

Will IIT Gandhinagar shortlist the 2nd round of M.Tech students?

NG
Neha Ghosh Posted On : February 24th, 2021
M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IITJ) (2019)

No, IIT Gandhinagar does not shortlist candidates from 2nd round of M tech candidates. Also, they don’t provide any waiting list for the same. They keep the seats vacant if anyone does not take admission. Although it is not correct as the seats remain vacant which can be filled by other waiting list candidates and their year will also not get wasted but this is not in our hands.

M.Tech seats are first filled by premium IITs and then the remaining seats by outside students who have qualified GATE. If you enter the college by qualifying GATE then you will be eligible for a scholarship as well.

The college also conducts its personal test for M.Tech admissions. In which they ask quantitative, reasoning and engineering mathematics. There are no spot admissions as of now. As the college is new more changes are expected in the coming future.

How is the grading system at the IIT Gandhinagar?

PH
Prerna H Posted On : February 22nd, 2021
BTech Mechanical Engineering & Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar

The grading system at IIT is quite common and similar to other IIT’s. The procedure is quite systematic and involves steps like:

  • You are awarded letter grade in courses and each letter has a numerical value. For instance, A is for 10; A – is 9; B is 8 and so on till F.
  • The Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) or Semester Performance Index (SPI) is calculated thereafter. It is the weighted average of grades of courses.
  • On the other hand, Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) takes semester grades into consideration.
  • There is also a criterion of giving A+ which has a numerical significance of 11 and is generally synonymous with exceptional performance.
  • Grading varies across and the average falls in the range of B or C which is close to 5-6.

The overall CPI and SPI will never extend 10.0. However, the more A+ you get, the more there are chances to compensate for bad performance in any semester.
