Which college is best for mechanical engineering: RV College Bangalore or Thapar University Patiala?
For Mechanical Engineering, Thapar University is better than RV College. It has better infrastructure. The departmental labs are well-equipped with the latest instruments. Thapar offers better academics as well. The peer group of the college is better compared to RV College.
Thapar University placements for Mechanical Engineering are great. Each year around 60% of the students get placed from the branch. The average CTC received by the students is around INR 6 LPA.
Which is better in placements: mechanical engineering dual degree at IIT Kharagpur or electrical engineering at IIT Roorkee?
There's not much of a difference in terms of placements or campus. Go for your interest.
EE comprises power transfer and machines, whereas Mechanical deals with heavy tools and machinery work.

What is the average package for a mechanical student at BIT Mesra?
The average package for a mechanical engineering batch of 2019 was 7 LPA. A friend of mine considered the amount a good return on Investment and recommended BIT Mesra. In the 2019 placement season, about 63 mechanical engineering students bagged jobs in the campus recruitment program.

How is the mechanical engineering department in IIEST, Shibpur as compared to departments like EE and ETC (placement and research-wise)?
IIEST, Shibpur formerly known as BESU is doing really well in all the departments. Whether it is about faculty or infrastructure it is growing steadily and gradually.
But as one wants to take a deeper look in comparing mechanical engineering, EE and ETC, let’s take a look on it:
- The research facility of the mechanical engineering department is quite decent and comparable with EE and ETC.
- It is even better at some aspects like it has research collaboration with some of the renowned foreign universities, some of the excellent facilities etc.
- When IIEST, Shibpur was known as BESU even then the mechanical engineering was considered to be the highest ranking department in one of these three departments.
- Also, one cannot forget to boast of tremendous alumni including a couple of directors of IITs.

- When it comes to placement, the mechanical engineering department has a decent placement record so far.
- ME and EE have almost equal numbers of core placements. And ETC has less core placements but the highest package is grabbed by ETC itself.
- The placement for mechanical engineering is really good though. Core companies such as Maruti Suzuki, CESC, Vedanta, coal India, Tata steel, Bridge and Roof, L&T, elegant marine services come on campus.
- So you can easily expect a very bright future of mechanical engineering graduates from IIEST SHIBPUR.
- After becoming an IIEST the placements have improved and after 5 years it will improve more.
- IIEST, Shibpur has always been known for its excellent core teachings. Also, it has one of the best and oldest labs in the country in EE and Mech which has been improved from time to time.
The college is very good for students interested in any of the three departments as mentioned. All the three mentioned departments are very good in IIEST. The thing that matters is your interest and will.
How's NIT Surathkal for mechanical?
The mechanical department at NIT Surathkal is hands down the best among most of the NITS and some of the new IITs as well. Given below is some of the information regarding the Mechanical department in NIT Surathkal.
Pros:
- You also find some of the extremely competitive and hard-working peer groups in the college.
- There are also some of the Tech Clubs like NITK Racing Team. The teams are really good for the Mechanical students if they want to develop more skills. This team has also been credited for building one of India’s lightest FS cars. NITK Racing Team has been considered to be the Best Asian team in FS Hungary and it was also the only team that participated in FS China representing India.
Cons:
According to few reviews, the syllabus of Mechanical Engineering is at NIT Surathkal is outdated. However, it is the same with most of the institutes.

Which is better, IIT Hyderabad EEE or IIT Madras mechanical engineering?
IIT Bombay and IIT Madras were established in 1958 and 1959 respectively. Both these institutions have emerged as highly renowned centers of Engineering studies in India. Both IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are more than an institution, they are in fact a brand with a high relevance and strong network in the industry.
The ‘Bombay’ or ‘Madras’ is a part of this brand name. This is not the address of these institutions, as both these cities have long been renamed as Mumbai and Chennai respectively. The institution name has not been altered because of the prestige and legacy carried by both these titles.
Thus, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras haven’t been renamed over the years.

Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar is better than engineering design engineering at IIT Madras. I don't know much about IIT Madras, but I can share information about IIT Bhubaneswar.
- IIT Bhubaneswar is famous for its excellent curriculum and research facilities.
- IIT Bhubaneswar offers a four-year full-time Btech course.
- The placement record for 2023 was excellent, with 82% of students being placed.
- The highest package is INR 21.28 LPA, and the median package is INR 12 LPA.
- Top recruiters hiring from IIT Bhubaneswar are Amazon, Google, Flipkart, Dell and more.
Which is better, mining in IIT Kharagpur or mechanical in IIT Patna?
First of all you need to lose this ideology that mechanical has more scope and mining has less scope. Every field has top notch research going in it and provides dynamic and challenging work opportunities.
I also had the same dilemma and I chose Mining at IIT Kharagpur over other departments for to following reasons:-
- IIT Kharagpur is famous for its Mining branch which is one of the core branches in b.tech.
- IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th in the NIRF ranking while IIT Patna is Ranked 41th.
- IIT Kharagpur has a Median Salary of 16 LPA while IIT Patna is at 12 LPA.
- IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest institutes in India established in 1951.
- Coal India also comes for recruitment at IIT Kharagpur and international companies like Rio Tinto come for recruitment process.

Is mechanical or ECE better in NIT Calicut?
According to some of my friends studying at NIT Calicut, the ECE branch is better in placements than the Mechanical Engineering branch.
- The placement greatly depends on the Aptitude and Academic record of the candidate.
- The Teaching quality of both of these departments is not so good.
- The candidate needs to work by themselves. The faculty might not be cooperative.
- Other than just depending on library books, candidates can prepare by learning from the internet as per the syllabus.
- It is important to know that the departments are very strict about their attendance policy. 80% attendance is mandatory for all students.

Only of the bright thing at NIT Calicut is that the exams are conducted only from the taught portions of the professors and not the whole syllabus. The course curriculum is a bit old and not current industry-oriented. The campus life, facilities and hostels are good. Students here have a decent college life with less extravaganza.
