What are the placement prospects for a NMP program from MDI Gurgaon?

AA
Ashutosh Agarwal Posted On : February 22nd, 2023
MBA from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

The NMP program of MDI is a well-known program that was initiated in the year 1988. The program is best suitable for Young Managers. Coming to the placement part, most of the students choosing this program are sponsored by the company they were working at and hence have to join back their company once their program is completed.

The general placements are also decent with around 70% placement percentage. But placements depend mostly on the knowledge gained and implemented in your job. Your performance throughout the program determines your placement.

Which is a better option, IIM Kozhikode or MDI Gurgaon?

SP
Smit Parmar Posted On : November 14th, 2022
IIM Kozhikode PGP 2018-2022

Most people consider IIM Kozhikode a better option than MDI Gurgaon. But in reality, MDI has many lesser-known features that might help you take the right decision:

  • MDI Gurgaon has the best faculty in finance so it’s the best option for the finance stream.

  • The curriculum taught here is very much similar to the skills sought by the industry

  • A large number of students get into consulting companies. More than 10 companies visit MDI every year.

  • Low batch strength, which means proper attention to each student

  • The No Reservation policy makes the admissions here solely merit-based

Although IIM Kozhikode has some excellent features, MDI Gurgaon lacks the public eye so it’s necessary you know its reality before blindly trusting IIM Kozhikode.

Is it better to join NMP at MDI Gurgaon or continue with your double figures salary package?

MDI EMBA is definitely a good choice if you want to pursue EMBA for

  • Acquiring knowledge
  • To start your own business
  • If you are joining the course on a sabbatical

But if you are here just for placement within India, then go for ISB only.

It’s sad to admit that even today Indian Corporates haven’t understood the importance of EMBA as most companies prefer MBA graduates only. They specifically enquire if their MBA program was a 2-year program or a regular MBA.

But ISB’s 1-year executive Management Course along with ISB brand name has been deemed equal in importance by the Indian Corporates to a full-time 2 year MBA. This is despite the fact that many students of the regular MBA program have 3-5 years of experience which is not uncommon even amongst many of the 2-year MBA programme students. EMBA from any other Institute is considered as candidates with a lot of experience which is not true in all the cases.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

AA
Apoorv Ashutosh Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.

How will MDI Gurgaon be as a brand in the future compared to IIM?

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : March 7th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Raipur (Graduated 2019)

MDI Gurgaon is considered at par with some and better than most of the IIM. Here are some reasons why:

  1. Improved Admission Process: MDI has improved its admission process over the years. Earlier, CAT scores were given more weightage, but now the institute has realized that it cannot be the sole selection criteria. More weightage is given to other parameters such as work experience, diverse industry experience, etc. This has improved the quality of incoming batches by leaps and bounds.
  2. Location: The institute is located in Gurgaon, which is a well-known business hub. This gives the institute an advantage in terms of industry connections and placement opportunities.
  3. Other successful programs: MDI offers a successful dedicated PGPHR program that ensures better industry contacts with people who really matter, in campus recruitment exercises. The institute also offers a lot of government-related programs, which help in establishing quality industry contacts and frees them from the burden of abiding by ever-changing HRD ministry moods and tantrums.
  4. Faculty: MDI has a large and experienced faculty. The institute delivers in terms of both numbers and quality. Gurgaon as a location again helps in terms of retiring with a career in academia and still staying in an urban setup, along with giving access to some quality consulting assignments.

However, MDI also struggles against issues like archaic institutional management practices, lack of modernization in terms of infrastructure, etc. These are common problems faced by most of the good institutions in the country. Despite these challenges, MDI has managed to establish itself as one of the top B-schools in India, and its reputation continues to grow.

How much percentile is required for admission in MDI, JBIMS or FMS?

AM
Anisha Mukhija Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Studied at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

My answer does mention the required percentile for each of the B Schools you mentioned. But before I proceed I would like to shed light on the fact that the CAT percentile is not the only factor that determines your admission into a B School. There are other factors you need to work on like academic background, work experience, and GD-PI.

MDI

The college offers PGDM admissions on the basis of CAT and GMAT scores. The expected CAT percentile is around 93-95 and the GMAT score is 680+.

Apart from this, the candidates are expected to have above average academic records, work experience and WAT.

JBIMS

The institute accepts CAT, MH-CET, and GMAT. The percentile cutoff for the General Category

CAT: 95

MH-CET: 99.97

GMAT is accepted only for NRIs.

FMS Delhi

This institute is well known for its extremely low fees and the null weightage given to past academics. Thus admissions are based on the CAT percentile for which the cutoff is very high and GD-PI. The CAT percentile can be around 98.3

It is important to note that CAT should not be the only factor to consider while preparing for admission. Interview and GD rounds should also be given equal importance in addition to work experience.

I am from Delhi. I am earning 7 LPA from a reputed company in Bangalore. Will it be a good decision to drop the job for an MBA from MDI Gurgaon? Why?

DS
Deepal Sharma Posted On : February 22nd, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Finance, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2018)

I will highly recommend you to go for MDI Gurgaon as the opportunities that will open up to you are vast. You will get to explore an altogether different world. The main reasons why one should take MDI Gurgaon are

  • If you stay at your current job and consider the raise you will get in 2 years, your salary will be 10-12 LPA in 2 years whereas after MBA your salary will start from at least 14 LPA which is a major difference.
  • Working at your current company will leave you with the tag of a normal engineer whereas the MBA tag will be a game changer in your career.
  • The experience at MDI itself will enable you to learn so many things and lead to overall personality development which will not be possible if you continue with your current job.

So joining MDI for an MBA is definitely a good choice.

What is the CAT cutoff for the PGP-IM in MDI Gurgaon?

RT
Ranjan Thakur Posted On : February 22nd, 2023
PGPM from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2017)

MDI Gurgaon CAT cut-off is 94 percentile. It has been reducing over the years starting since 2010. The CAT cutoff is usually released when the GD-PI list is published. But I would like you to reconsider your decision of pursuing PGP-IM instead of PGPM. You can complete PGPM and then go abroad for an exchange program for 3 months. But if you are getting PGP-IM in MDI Gurgaon and PGPM in a mediocre B School, then choosing MDI is a better option.

Some highlights about the PGP-IM course are

  • Students of both the PGP-IM and PGPM programs are given equal opportunities and there is no partiality. However, some companies do prefer PGPM students only while some prefer PGP-IM students.
  • It’s a very rigorous course but you get to make International friends and access to the alumni network of institutes like ESCP.

Trust me 5-10 years later, your performance will matter more than anything.

What is better, MDI for PGP-IM or IIM Ranchi?

VY
Vipin Yadav Posted On : January 19th, 2023
Studied Economics

Deciding which college to attend for an MBA can be a difficult decision due to the high cost of tuition and the potential impact on future career prospects. MDI PGP-IM is a specialized program, while IIM Ranchi's PGDM program is a general management program with the option to choose a specialization in the second year. This may limit the scope of the MDI program. Additionally, the PGP-IM program at MDI requires 3 years of work experience, while IIM Ranchi does not have this requirement. While MDI may have the advantage of a strong brand name and proximity to the business hub in Delhi NCR, it is important to consider how much value this adds to the PGP-IM program.

IIM Ranchi has its own set of limitations, such as a temporary campus, but the institute has a strong reputation and a history of good placements. The hostels at IIM Ranchi are also some of the best in the country, offering individual rooms rather than shared accommodations. It is worth noting that some students do transfer from MDI PGP-IM to IIM Ranchi, although it is less common for students to go in the opposite direction. Ultimately, the best college for you will depend on your individual preferences and priorities.
