How do the students of IIIT Allahabad prepare for placements?

UB
Udita Bose Posted On : May 5th, 2021
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2013-2018)

First of all, preparing for placements is a continuous process. You should never make this mistake to pile up things for the last moment. You should start preparing by brushing up your existing knowledge from the initial days only. In the final month of placement, you should only revise the concepts both basics and advanced. Here are some of the resources that you can follow for your preparation.

  • InterviewBit: It’s a very useful website that may help you in practicing coding. You will get a good idea about the standard of questions that the companies ask.
  • GeeksforGeeks: For data structure, the best source to study is geeks for geeks. It’s a complete portal for CS/IT students. You can also refer to books such as Introduction to Algorithms” by Charles E. Leiserson, Clifford Stein, Ronald Rivest, and Thomas H. Cormen.
  • For Operating Systems, books like “Operating System Concepts” by Abraham Silberschatz, Peter B. Galvin, and Greg Gange. Modern Operating Systems by Andrew S. Tanenbaum is good.
  • For Databases again the NPTEL course by Prof. D. Jankiram of IIT Madras is very promising. For short notes, you can refer to GeeksforGeeks.
  • SQL queries can be learned from GeeksforGeeks and can be practiced on Hackerrank.
  • For Networking, basic knowledge is required. “Computer Networks: A Systems Approach” by Larry L. Peterson will be helpful for you.

You can go through two websites, i.e. GeeksforGeeks and Glassdoor to learn about interview experiences.

Which is better: an IT at the IIIT Allahabad, CSE at NIT Rourkela or CSE at MANIT Bhopal?

RA
Ritesh Agarwal Posted On : March 11th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2013)

One of my friends told me that these three institutes must be in this order like; IIIT A>>> NIT Bhopal>= NIT Rourkela. Although he was a student of NIT Rourkela.

He stated that between these three, Rourkela and Bhopal are more or less equal. However, both of these institutes consist of some advantages and disadvantages as well.

If NIT Bhopal is considered and compared with NIT Rourkela, then it must be said that NIT Bhopal's strength is a large batch size; IT+CSE. But the main advantage of NIT Bhopal is the location and nearby airport transport facilities that conceal all the advantages of this institute. For this reason, NIT Bhopal experiences big recruiters every year, and NIT Rourkela misses this entirely. This is the reason why NIT Bhopal is one step ahead of NIT Rourkela.

However, at NIT Rourkela, M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is almost similar to doing M.Tech in IITs. But in the case of Bhopal, the students can sit for placements for all the big companies in the campus recruitment process along with B.Tech companies. It will be better to avoid IIIT Allahabad for doing M.Tech in CSE, as placement opportunities in this institute are not good. This thing is that IIIT Allahabad does not allow M.Tech students to attend for placement in the on-campus recruitment process.

Thus, it can be stated that for the B.Tech course, IIIT Allahabad>> NIT Bhopal> NIT Rourkela.

Why are the students of IIIT Allahabad so desperate to draw students to their institute?

MG
Moumita Ghosh Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2019)

Something you need to understand is that it is no one who is desperate to grab in students. The reputation of IIIT Allahabad in India is of one fine institute that holds national importance of its own. Apart from that, it has managed to establish itself as a brand on its own since its existence. The only issue is how underrated it lies amongst the people in India.

If you check out any other social media platform, you would realise that students who come from IIIT Allahabad provide feedback and present authentic facts everywhere. But there exists a certain mass that claim false facts by taking credit for achievements received by other campuses. These people carry such misconceptions that they believe that an INI set up MHRD- which has managed to establish itself almost 10 years back is nothing in front of a college under a PPP model.

While coming across anyone rating your college better than IIIT Allahabad, you should have an open mind for criticism.

So, what makes IIIT Allahabad a great college -

  • In ACM ICPC World Finals 2016, would not have been ranked as the first institute.
  • According to Sphere Online Judge would not have been ranked number 1 in the world.
  • Not have been ranked Numero Uno by HackerEarth.
  • Topcoder would not have ranked it number 27.
  • Would not have granted the best example of the finest coder in India- Harsha Suryanarayana.
  • Would not have sent teams to the ACM ICPS world finale- not once, but several times!
  • Would not have secured a place for India at Opera Software as Opera Campus Crew Coordinator.

There are newspaper rankings on IIIT Allahabad too that you can go through, but I'm essentially not someone who buys that as most of the time, these high rankings on newspapers are paid advertisements.

Last, but not least, no doubt that IIIT Allahabad is one of the finest institutes, but there is still much to work on. Also, keep this in mind - no one forces students in institutes and is desperate for that.

Is IIIT Allahabad good for the course of integrated robotics?

SG
Sarita Gupta Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studied at IIIT Allahabad (2019)

I would say that it is not suitable for those who wish to pursue a career in research. Also, if you are hoping for good placements in any robotics company you will be disappointed. But first, weigh the benefits and drawbacks.

Pros and Cons:

  • You will complete two degrees in five years. But you do not need two degrees to get a good job; a B.Tech course is far superior in this case.
  • You will have a lot of time to concentrate on the work you want to do.
  • You will have the opportunity to study both B.Tech and M.Tech.
  • Some companies frequently provide more benefits to M.Tech students. But some will not allow you to sit because they do not accept M.Tech students.
  • You will only be paid for a period of ten months. M.Tech students, on the other hand, are paid for 22 months, whereas B.Tech students are paid for the internships they obtain in their final semesters.
  • Because of thesis work, M.Tech students are not permitted to participate in any internships during their final year.
  • To be successful in robotics, you must be skilled in mechanical, electrical, electronics, and software. Fortunately, the faculty here will be able to guide you in these areas.

Now consider the following factors that make it superior to the standard course:

  1. Robotics Faculty: Faculty is really nice here. They are very friendly, cooperative and will guide you in a good direction.
  2. Robotics Lab: Once again, one of the best and most prestigious laboratories is at IIIT-A.
  3. Nowadays, the majority of students are primarily engaged in simulation and algorithmic projects. As an IT institute, the majority of the topics are confined to algorithms and the software component.
  4. On the one hand, B.Tech IT strengthens our coding skills, while M.Tech specialization strengthens our mechanical and electronics sides. That is, a robotics student is a developer, coder, electronics master, and dynamics.
  5. Job Security: You have the same job opportunities as any other IT student and can even apply for a position as a professor in any private college. They will pay you more than private businesses.

This institute is the only one of its kind to offer an IT robotics specialization. That means your coding skills will undoubtedly come in handy. Other colleges place a greater emphasis on mechanical and physical aspects. So, if you're an IT enthusiast who enjoys coding robots, this is the institute for you.

To get admission in IIIT Allahabad what should I do?

DS
Deepti Singh Posted On : March 9th, 2021
B.Sc from Delhi Technological University

My best friend cracked the IIT Allahabad entrance in 2018 and it was not easy to do so. She had cleared the JEE exam with 225 marks to get into the IT department. IIIT Allahabad is a good institution because of its IIT brand name, although it ranks #103 on the NIRF Engineering ranking portal. However, if you'd like to pursue an education at IIT A then read on-

  • Firstly, you must have a minimum of 75% marks in 10+2 after which the JOSAA counseling till round 2 can lead you to your IIIT A goal.
  • You must get at least 180 marks in the JEE exam to enroll in the four-year ECE program at IIIT Allahabad and your AIR rank for the same should be under 11,000.
  • For other dual degree courses, you will need between 180-220 marks in the same.
  • Your AIR rank must be under 6500 to get into IIIT A.
  • One more good news will be that IIIT A does not have a state quota for residents of UP, hence anyone from India has a fair chance of studying in it. This is true for all IITs.

The table below shows the JEE exam syllabus and pattern for your convenience-

Parameters

JEE Exam Requirements

Duration

3 hours

Exam Mode

Computer-Based

Negative Marking

-1

Eligibility Criteria

75% in 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry and Maths

Keep concentrating on your studies. Prepare with dedication and read the syllabus fully. Analyze the previous years' papers. Keep in mind that JEE Main and JEE Advanced have different topics. You need to prepare accordingly.

What are the most hated subjects at IIIT Allahabad?

AC
Abhay Chaturvedi Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

In general, it is said that when a student hates a subject, it means he/she hates the teacher who is teaching the specified subject. There are several subjects in different departments which students dislike, and some of them are listed below.

  • In Electronics and Communication Engineering, there are 7 courses with 25 credit points each. The most hated subject among students was Electronic Devices and Circuits (EDC).
  • In IT and ECE, students with no experience in coding find programming difficult to some extent and have some hatred towards programming languages. The problem here lies in the faculty that teaches programming. Students with prior knowledge of coding have no problem with the course.

These are some of the few subjects that are considered difficult by students from IT and ECE. Though these are some general perceptions, there are students who find these easy or may find difficulty in some other subjects.

What do IIIT Allahabad students think about Dr. Rahul Kala?

VS
Varun Singh Posted On : March 16th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2019)

Dr. Rahul Kala- assistant professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics is one of the faculty members at IIIT Allahabad. He indeed is one of the finest of all. Here are something you should know about him -

  • Dr. Kala completed his 5-year integrated B.Tech (IT) and M.Tech (IT) program from IIIT Gwalior.
  • Dr. Kala also has a Ph.D. in Cybernetics which is from the School of Systems Engineering, University of Reading, UK.
  • Pattern Recognition and Classification, Intelligent Vehicles and Intelligent Transportation System, Robotic Motion Planning were areas he had done extensive research in.
  • There are a good number of books and research papers written by him.

Naturewise, Dr. Kala is one fine person who is so very humble and simple in his ways. Unless he doesn't have any lectures or meetings to attend, Dr. Kala arrives at his office around 9:00-9:30 AM and departs right at 9:00 PM in the night.

He can be described as someone who is-

  • Down-to-earth
  • Known for his candor amongst both his students and colleagues
  • Extremely passionate about what he does. He learns at once and makes decisions accordingly
  • Would always be seen either going through certain research papers, AI Books, Thesis, etc., and scribbling some technical formulae on the whiteboard in his office which no student would be able to decipher and wonder why even did they opt for Robotics in the first place.
  • Even if you decide to barge into his office unannounced, he would never mind that and would be ready to help you with your thesis or coding.
  • Even if it is a teacher or even a student, he would always be a great mentor to them
  • You'd always find Dr. Kala wearing a smile and would never find him cranky. He is someone who would also lighten the mood of the class by cracking a joke

To capsule everything about Dr. Kala, the point that I've tried to make is that you'll receive the best guidance and learning from him. His company is always appreciated. Whether it is anyone from their labs or lecture rooms- they'd always praise having Dr. Kala around.

What happend on your first day at IIIT Allahabad?

SS
Somya Srivastav Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Studied at IIT Delhi

My brother attended IIT Allahabad. His first day was normal and hectic with all the admission procedures and formalities. But his first-class experience was quite amusing. Here is how it went.

One or two days after admission, he is taking the campus tour with our parents. While entering CC - 3 (Computer Center -3), my father casually asked the guard, ‘Where are the classrooms for freshers?’ To this question, the guard replied the classes have started from that day only from 10 A.M.

It was around 10:25 A.M by then and my brother had no idea or any notebook with him. My parents kind of pushed him to attend his first class anyway. He was already 30 mins late. He took a quick peek at the class and according to him, the professor looked lenient. So, he took a chance and tried to sneak in quietly. Nonetheless, the professor saw him and asked, ‘Are you 30 mins late for this class or 30 mins too early for the next one?’ In response, the whole class burst out in laughter.

Later he got to know the said professor was the HOD of the Mathematics department. Needless to say, it was quite a start for my brother.
